I'm trying to envision the sort of person that pays this for a car...and for that kind of money they have to have been capable of making good money...and then I think....who makes that kind of money while being willing to just throw it away so willingly? Everyone that I know of that's successful got there because of their intelligence, grit and gumption. This requires a sucker. Who has money while being a sucker?

As PT Barnum said, “There is one born every minute.” ??

I guess to some people the time they save is worth the crazy ADM. I sure as heck do not make that kind of money any more. ?‍♂??

I believe this is the general mindset at FoMoCo in general. They way they select orders for production is a prime example.
No Ranger Rick, Ford Motor Corp is actually asking dealers to not mark things up. That's why they are spending hundreds of millions to set up a completely separate Corporation that will sell at the price they set. As far as model mix, our Lightning on order is Lariat and we wanted a Pro. I'm sure they have Billions in development and Factory costs they need to recover. If that means selling more Loaded up Lightnings, that's responsible business decision making. It's decisions like this that maintain a company and employees for over 100 years. We may not like it, but if we were in charge they probably wouldn't be around long.

Some people have more money than patience obviously. Got to have it now! A dealer here in Florida Has a First Edition Bronco with 1,700 miles on it for $109,000! Last I went by, it's still there. Near us the dealerships are being bought by these large Mega dealer Corps, and so I fly to buy it drive two hours to Mobile. So many people just stay in the local area and are getting the shaft but when they tell me what they paid for their car I have to be polite. I simply say are you enjoying your vehicle? Nice color or something like that.

Not necessarily a sucker... it's mental gymnastics, to a degree.

When I was in college I'd make a list of items I wanted (some needed, but not immediately) and would pull out that list around Black Friday. For posterity, I should note that these were the days when you could actually get good deals on Black Friday :p But now, I don't have the same time to do things like waiting in sales lines. I still have a list of items I'd wait on a sale for, but the list is smaller than it used to be. I tell my wife that we didn't work our assess off to get to where we are only to still have to suffer the same discomforts, only now under the pressures of our work.

In a way it's all relative. I ordered my Mach-E and was prepared to wait for close to a year for it. Add another zero to the left of the decimal point on to my salary, and I could probably justify the ADM to myself :D I figure a lot of people look at the gas prices or the second-hand car sales and figure that even with the ADM it'll be worthwhile

Or maybe they really are suckers and aren't doing the calculation - they see a car that they like the look of, see that it's rare, and impulse buy. I'd think electric vehicles are less of an impulse buy for people since you need to have a charging strategy, but who knows...

I don’t know if I would say sucker. I would say the person who buys the car for more than MSRP simply feels the car is worth what they are paying for it.

If you look at Tesla, the Model 3 and Model Y have gone up over $10K over the last year and it is the same car for more money. Does that mean someone buying a MY today is a sucker? Another example will be when the tax credit expires in the MME. The person who buys one right after it expires completely will be paying $7,500 more than the person who bought the same car the month before.

When I was looking for one on a lot a couple of male coworkers were searching with me. They would find one incoming on the Ford inventory and tell me the MSRP on a premium and I’d say “no that’s the star white“ or “no that’s the ER, not the SR”. After about the third or fourth one they asked how I knew. I told them I’d spent 4 months looking at inventory and options and I knew. They looked shocked and impressed.

I sometimes think the dealers think most people just woke up this morning and decided to buy an MME. I live in Tampa and I talked to someone at that dealership. A lot of us have searched for a long time or a long distance. We know the pricing, options and details better than they do.

When I got one on the lot, I knew way more about the car than the walkthrough instructor. Although he was very nice, professional and was really trying. ?
Theyre paid to handle transactions and get the most money out of you not to know anything about cars. That would be too much work besides sitting around waiting for customers

Five weeks ago I emailed Golf Mill Ford in Chicago about a 2021 GTPE they had in stock. They came back with a $30,000 ADM. That car is still sitting at their sister dealership, Hawk Ford.

Local dealer (Phil Long Ford Motor City, Colorado Springs) called with a "Deal" on a CA RT1.... asking $77k. She seemed shocked that I knew that the MSRP was under $60k for such a car. FWIW I do understand a limited ADM, but c'mon.

Sadly, someone else is going to probably pay this anyway.
Wow….. I don’t expect anything better from them. My husband once bought a car from them many years ago and it was the worst experience ever. I don’t do anything with that dealership…….. Colorado Springs resident, temporarily residing in California.

No, the person who buys it a month after the tax credit expires will be paying $1875 more than the person a month before it expired completely.

There is a phase out period. Once Ford sells the 200,000th vehicle in that quarter, the next quarter will still be $7500, then $3750 for the next 2 quarters, then $1875 for 2 quarters, then nothing.

You seem to have the same opinion about people that I do. I would also like to add that I find most people that NEED to borrow money to purchase the car, they often pay a higher sticker price. Many people only talk about the monthly payments and the add on's etc. get buried into the payment and they really don't realize what they are paying in total for the car at the end of the term.

Most people that are successful, IMO don't throw "good" money around aimlessly. Many people that have earned money the hard way (not inheriting it) are very careful on how they spend it. They realize how hard it was to obtain it and they don't want to have that feeling of not having it in the near future.

Now if people want to pay ADM, I say go for it. They are basically allowing me (the next customer in line) of being able to negotiate knowing that the dealership already "raped" the person ahead of me and their quota has already been met for the month. It will artificially inflate other car prices temporarily but things will fall back down to Earth here shortly due to higher interest rates. The Stock Market is already giving us hints of that.

I personally think that if you need to borrow money on more than a 3 year loan, you really can't afford the car you are purchasing unless it is business related.

The average person is very foolish with the money they don't have in their pocket and unfortunately the people that were the "wise" consumers usually have to bail out the fools and life goes on...........................................

That's my rant for the day!! ?

I paid a little under 2k ADM, because it was 'on the lot' and I didn't have to order my car. I felt that was a fair mark up.
The dealership, Canby Ford, has since changed hands, They are now marking up the MMEs 5k to 10k The funny thing is they post the window stickers, so you can actually see what you are buying, and the MSRP.

Suppose you’re older, have more than enough to live a wealthy life, learn about this car, really want it, probably have a decade or so of good driving left, kids stand to inherit hundreds of thousands if not a couple of mil one day, is it so crazy to spend an extra $10,000 to $15,000 to get this car now no hassle for that price rather than shop around for a reasonable dealership and order one expecting to get it in a year with $0 ADM?

Tens of thousands of Americans in this situation, basically.
