On my exit off a freeway to get home, the dash would report 80 in the 30 mpr exit ramp and street.

The reason was someone had placed a black sticker that filled the negative space on the left of the 3, making it look enough of an 80.

While one (should) already be breaking by that point, making cruse control stop if on, it was an early reminder that it's not a perfect system.
Adaptive Cruise with Traffic Sign Recognition has been a thing for roughly a decade.

Never had problems like this in previous cars.

Agreed.
However, the MME is not "previous cars".
The MME has flaws to a magnitude of 10 compared to previous cars. Use it accordingly, with caution and strictly limit the MMEs "technology" should you wish to enjoy riding in your car.

I've seen many times my MME read 65 sign as 85. A week ago I was driving on Highway 17 from Santa Cruz and it was a nightmare. People familiar with this road know how winding and tight the lanes on that road are. Now they put signs with speed limits from 35 to 65 changing every few hundred feet. The car ignored most of the speed signs, and misread the rest.

So the random low speed limit signs like detecting a 45 mph sign on the interstate that obviously doesn't exist is one thing...

But detecting 80mph signs in the middle of a city seems extremely dangerous....

Only if you are using the electronics on your vehicle as a crutch and not an aid, never ever ever rely so heavily on anything built into your car that you stop being in control!

Silly me thinking Ford, an actual car making company, could take all of the car stuff that's been working for ages and merely replace ICE with an electric power train.

Other than lying about 480hp and the EA charging shenanigans, I can't say my MME has any "EV" problems....

Ford forgot how to make cars when switching to EV power? I think I know the answer.... Ford is trying to make their own software instead of using suppliers in their EVs.

When I drive around the far suburbs of Chicago, the phrases "You are not a bus!" and "You are not a truck!" are common. Sees the 70 mph general limit sign, sees the 60/65 bus/truck limit 30 feet later and starts decelerating...
I posted about this a long time ago. Went and found my post. Made me realize I wanted @Ford Motor Company to see my feedback, but this was before they joined the forum.

For what it's worth, Ford uses a lot of suppliers. The navigation data is provided by HERE, sign recognition uses Mobileeye, the infotainment system is based on Blackberry QNX (though they're moving to Android OS in a future model).

Not that they don't introduce bugs with their customizations, but especially in the context of the car misreading speed signs or having incorrect information, they're relying on other products whose literal one job is to provide the feature that Ford is needing to consume.

It works on other Ford cars though? Or has Ford been knowingly selling crap Adaptive Cruise for years?

I had my speed sign recognition fubar too the other day on Blue Cruise. Was crawling in "scenic" LA traffic and had a great laugh when I saw 85 pop up!

Good thing I commanded a totally legal speed on BC. Oh, to give Ford a get-out-of-jail free card, all speed signs were plastered in usual black graffiti.

As far as I am aware, some of the tech (particularly Mobileeye) is new to Ford with the MME. My Fusions all had Adaptive Cruise that reacted to traffic and worked perfectly, but none of them attempted to read street signs with a camera or to change speed automatically based on the speed that map data was reporting for the area (which was not terribly accurate in some areas).

I can't speak for other models though. I've at least never seen them market sign recognition and the advanced driver assistance stuff until the MME.

I wish Ford would pull speed limit info from Android Auto.?

It's rather arrogant for Ford to think they can create a viable competitor to Apple or Google maps. They should just leave nav out of their cars entirely and give us all a $4k refund or cheaper future pricing.
Almost every auto manufacturer has their own maps app so that they can charge for it. First I saw was Toyota near 20 years ago. Turn off speed sign recognition and/Orr adjust the over amount. I am set to 9 over. I tapped ok to BC and immediately accelerated to 9 over the limit. It was unexpected but not the fault of the MME. AI is not the human brain and while it centers the car better than I do it can make mistakes for a number of reasons having nothing to do with bad software. Every shadow and every poorly designed road sign can set it off.

I just don't understand how Ford's adaptive cruise is so much worse than all the other cars I've had with it before the MME.

I feel ripped off. Never would I have thought any OEM hasn't figured out adaptive cruise yet. Never would I have thought any car company charges for so many features that have to be turned off and not used so the car is safe to drive.

Yeah, they should all stop. It's just a way for them to increase price/profit from a substandard product.
