Right, but cars like the leaf reinforce the stereotype that BEV's have poor range, are slow to recharge, and the batteries die within a few years. The current generation BEVs are SO much better, and more importantly can break that image.
Just by looking like normal cars they break the image. ??

Interesting that they tested the performance versions, the regular long range Y and 3 would have done much better. Why would the MME spend 5 hours charging vs 3 hours on the 3/Y performance? Those all have roughly the same range, charging speed from the chargers?

Yep. The v3 superchargers are 225 or 250 kw (forget which), and of course the Mach E maxes out at 150-ish kw (with the average being more like 125kw).

I don't know about that. I think the Leaf still has a place in the market. In town delivery or other fleet usage seems like an ideal place for it. Some municipalities in the Phoenix metro run them. The price has fallen pretty drastically. Obviously it is not in the same class as the other 10 vehicles in the test.
The latest leaf long range model has an EPA range of 226 miles which is not that much less than the Mach-e. I suspect the issue was that Nissan still use the ChaDemo charging standard not CCS and they are probably not as available. That's the reason I would not consider a Leaf as my next EV. I find it interesting that they didn't include the Chevy Bolt in their test.

I didn't realize they had gotten to that level. Crazy that Nissan is sticking with ChaDemo.

The major benefit for me is that the magazine and on line article mentioned that all 11-22 drivers started using : A Better Routeplanner", an app to help them plan, but did also use other planners during their trip to try to gain an advantage in finishing first. The app looks good, but I have not used it yet, as my Mach E , on order, does not exist yet! I did note that the app even makes provision in its calculations for a trip on a car ferry from New London CT to Orient Point, NY, even invluding the time on the ferry in its calculations of trip time. Hope the app proves itself when I use it. Has anyone used it before?

Yep, it's very good and much better than any of the built in NAV systems for road trip planning

Yes, absolutely. It is extremely flexible. I have spent lots of time using the web version to plan a long trip, and it is extremely flexible. You can insert your own waypoints/chargers if you'd rather take a different route or stop at a more convenient location for a meal or overnight hotel stop.

So Ford claims that FordPass app also takes into calculation of elevation, and other variables. I find it hard that a third party app would be more accurate then the first party app that has access to internal vehicle data.

Seems like a flawed premise with the way fast charging capacity was handled. The grouping of cars at chargers really confounded the results, and doesn't represent an accurate depiction of real world charger availability either.
Mach-e baby!!! A software update away from perfection!!!

Personally I planned trips in my Bolt and in my Mach E using the built in nav/apps. Then I did the same using ABRP, almost identical results for each car, including a significant climb from Phoenix to Flagstaff.

Also ABRP only works with CarPlay if you pay a fee for the premium version. Plugshare works with CarPlay for free, it also has a trip planner and can bring up all the close stations.
