Sounds like a nice little improvement for those of us who use Android Auto.

Any chance this will also trigger a HVB precondition while navigating with Google Maps - as opposed to only the Ford Nav now?
The businessman in me thinks Ford will want to reserve that feature for their subscription navigation service....but hopefully I'm wrong.

As an aside there were articles back in August that Google Maps will stop showing gas stations for EVs.
That sucks. How are we supposed to “EV” gas pumps now?

This is fantastic news. Both Apple and now Google have EV integration with Ford vehicles as the development partner. It makes me even more happy I chose the Mach E over everything else. For the time being, we have exclusive features that no other EV owner has.
My integration stopped working 5 months ago. CarPlay + Apple Maps stopped EV SoC% reporting after some update and it's never returned. Can't be bothered as I don't do long trips with the Mach-E.

Other EVs like the BMW i4 and I think the Ioniq 5 - showed routing on the dashboard if you used Apple Maps with CarPlay.

Android Auto is getting deeper integration wherein electric vehicles can share real-time battery information with Google Maps. This will let the navigation app show “estimated battery level upon arrival at your destination.”

It can also be used to suggest charging stops and estimate how long charging will take for your car. This is coming first to the Ford Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning over the “coming months.”
"Over the coming months" sounds to me like it may require an OTA from Ford. Perhaps it'll be one of the first updates in the 7.x line.

I agree completely.
x3.

What I am hoping is that Ford embraces an "open" mindset to things that really are not differentiators (e.g. preconditioning) and allows third-parties like Google to take advantage of their APIs.

Tesla is good about this - sometimes. They "open sourced" the Cybetruck's 48V system, so if Ford can operate with a similar mindset to help the market and industry move forward, customers win and Ford gains a reputation for playing well with others.

Looking forward to playing with this. The article says "today" but it's not showing in mine yet.

I use AA exclusively, not the Ford nav. I do all my mapping on Google Maps (phone, desktop, car).

I could see Ford keeping some value-added features limited to the Ford nav though, to coax people to pay the $80/yr subscription.

Well this is frustrating. The Techcrunch artice says:

The new Android Auto feature will roll out today on Ford Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning. More EV brands will follow in the coming months, according to Google.

While the Google Blog says:

Electric vehicles compatible with Android Auto can share real-time battery information with Google Maps – coming first to the Ford Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning in the coming months, with others to follow.

LOL I think I would go with Google on that info instead of with a media outlet. ??

Yeah I think the admin figured that out too (maybe after I pointed it out). The link in the top post just changed from a Techcrunch article to a 9to5Google article. All the other articles I found say "in a few months" too.

When I read "today" I thought Wow! Sounded too good to be true though.

If they could only add it into car play with Google maps it would be great. I personally like Google maps better than Apple's maps.
100% I've been using ford navigation since I have the trial till next month. I very much prefer google maps

I use Waze (also owned by Google) but Maps still has the edge when it comes to navigation. That's what makes the SoC integration so meaningful.
