5 years of various Mach e's and never once pre conditioned and always charge to 100 percent. Never had a problem in all that time on 3 different Mach e models.

You live in South Carolina. Tomorrow it will be 4F for a high. If I was leaving on a trip, and I didn't precondition, the range on my first leg would not be good.

I’ve wondered about this too. At what temperature does there start to be a need for preconditioning? Or, what’s the warmest temperature that still triggers preconditioning in the MME?
For daily driving there’s rarely any need to precondition the battery. It can even eat up more electricity than it ā€œsavesā€. I use the scheduled departure for the automatic cabin heating every day, not necessarily for anything it does for the battery.

It’s really only needed if you’re going to take a long trip in colder weather and need maximum range/efficiency.

Preconditioning will always use more total power for a given journey than not. Its benefits are maximum cold weather range and initial cabin comfort.

Why is this disappointing? It really isn't needed. If it is really cold and you are heading for a DCFC, it might save you a few minutes, but that would be the only reason. Most of the time, you are heading to a DCFC after driving so the battery is already fairly warm.
Most of the time, you are heading to a DCFC after driving so the battery is already fairly warm.------those of us living in true cold winter weather and using a third party hardware/app such as car scanner pro realize the battery temperature drops and continues to drop while driving. Setting a dcfc as a designation can induce battery warming as one closes into this location.

I might be having a brain fart here. I too am deciding not to precondition my battery before my 17 mile commute. But I want to have the cabin heated up while on the hook. Why can’t I figure out how to disable preconditioning and still warm the cabin while plugged in mornings after charging

The car does not provide an option to heat/cool the cabin and not precondition the battery while on an L2 EVSE or faster charger. šŸ¤”šŸ©

You’re not missing anything. It doesn’t have the option to do that.

You’ll have to manually start the climate from the app, or maybe set a smartphone automation to start the climate at a certain time each day. You can do this on iPhone but not sure about Android.

I posted a write up on how to do this using Samsung Routines in a way that can be modified to your likings. I'm sure it's also doable with other versions of Android as well using their routines apps.

How similar is Level 2 charging to preconditioning. Above says precondition gets battery to 59 degrees, what is the temp of the battery if say it has been continuously L2 charging for 2-3 hours prior to departure?

Nowhere near 59 degrees.
