This morning I went to unplug my car and there was a stream of ants going up the charging cable. I unplugged and drove to work and check a few times. It seems they are coming out of some crevices in the frunk and may have started a nest!?
*panic* can you tent a car?! I will spray some ant killer into the places of the frunk where they come out of and hope they realize there is no food or anything in this car.

Anybody got any advice?

I charge outside and noticed ants using the charge cable to enter the car. May seem like the weirdest response but I put normal Vaseline below the charge handle and that prevented the ants or any or other creatures walking casually up the cable and nesting in the car.

Whatever you do, I'd suggest you don't spray ant killer into the vents of your car! If you do, you run the risk that your interior will smell of insecticide forevermore...

They like the warm spots in the charger and there’s also a specific type of red ant that likes electricity. Texas has this problem sometimes with electronics that are kept outside.
you asked ……

“I just wonder now what attracted them to go up the charging cable in the first place. They are not in the cabin and there has never been any open food in car ever. I have never used the frunk either.”

Traces of manufacturing grease and exhuming components of all rubber and plastics are attractive to many insects as are condensate drippings. The aromas also attract them If you take my advice and put some AMDRO around your garage and get rid of the queens and have them move elsewhere, you’ll never see them again you might have to do it once a season. Anything they find they take back to their queen it is in their genetic brain. If you give them poison your problem is over. Entire colony dies within a day of the queen dying.

Yeah. I had ants all over the charging cable too. I park under a car tent. Get yourself some combat gel, squeeze it along the cable. Does the trick, they won't come back after a few days.
I had the same issue in my garage and putting ant bait gel on the charging cord did the trick. I also found that keeping the charging cord from touching the floor helped too. I read online that some species of ants are attracted to the electromagnetic emissions and EVs are a target for them.

This literally drove me nuts until I figured it out. I had ants everywhere and they even managed to get inside the cabin which was even worse.

Give the ant bait a try and keep the cord off the ground.

Try also to find where the troops are coming from, following their trail as ar as you can. Put a few of Terro baits a ways from your car on their trail. Soon, you will see all of them preferring that over your car. (I don’t like to attract them in the house either, so I find them outside, sure enough, that becomes their preference.) Ants eventually come back if they aren’t lured elsewhere.

I’ve had pretty good luck with Amdro ant block bait. Just sprinkle it around the ground and where ever you think they are coming from.

I did find a black widow in my car once - in Mississippi. No ants though.
I’ve been in duck blinds with a few dozen black widows over the years. One hitched a ride on the cheek piece of my shotgun. That was loads of fun. ??

I looked at that, but the issue is that it is more a townhouse style setup with multiple attached garages and houses. I am pretty sure these things live in the walls. I put out like 8 Terro traps and some others around the garage. Death to the queen!

One word.
AMDRO

ants like bees, have a queen. If you kill the queen, your problem goes away the worker ants take the AMDRO back to the queen and feed it to the silly bitch. End of ant problem Google it.
Jes sayin. In Arizona ants come out in the heat and AMDRO makes them go away.

I can absolutely say that this will get rid of your ant problem.

Although, ant poison will not damage your paint job like this will.
Having trouble deciding between:

Dust off and nuke it from orbit -it's the only way to be sure
and
Someone set us up the bomb! All your base are belong to us.
