Hello, all ...

Are there any OpenPilot users here using it to add autopilot-like features to your Mach E? I've tried BlueCruise - I recvd a free 90-day trial when I bought my GTPE - but it's just not very good imo, and I don't plan on keeping it.

_Truly_ great car - software, not so much.

Regards,

John

I had a comma2 on my G70 with DragonPilot (an open pilot branch for tinkerers). Comma is truly excellent. You don't need a subscription, lidar- or gps-mapped roads or even roads to use their driver assistance. It just works, every time. It also doesn't ping-pong as much as blue cruise and feels far more natural around turns and avoiding unnecessary merging into exit ramps.

However I'd be surprised if it works on the Mach-E. It worked well for the Genesis because it had standard radar-adaptive cruise control and all comma needed to do is identify the road and command steering torque. The MME seems to be fully vision-based, so the comma would need to take over following distance duties as well as steering. Just seems harder to integrate at first blush.

It does work on mach-e. There used to be some weird things it would do with steering, but I think that has been fixed. Id recommend talking to people on Discord about it. It is a pain to set up as the harness has to go in the trunk.

Oh nice, that's surprising to me. I might have to give it a try with my old comma 2 sitting in the drawer

wont work with 2 anymore. It lost software support like 2 or 3 years ago.

Yeah that's partly what Dragon Pilot is for - keeping users on the road with C2. It's not getting any new features like stoplight/stop sign detection but it still works.

However, that's all contingent on Ford not making changes to the MME or on-board modules over the years that prevent its functioning or fingerprinting... I have a '24 MME after all. I need to go dig through the discord

I don't think dragonpilot added support for mach-e, but don't quote me on this. you do NEED a red panda as Ford uses CAN-FD. 24 should fingerprint fine, if you even need to do it at all

So you geniuses will have your 480 hp SUVs guided down a highway at 80 mph with software made by a tinkerer? Very smart.

Bluecruise is no different. It's level 2 driver assistance. The driver is always in control, and always attentive. If anything, I trust a tinkerer that knows a system's limitations more than a normie that doesn't until it's too late.

Try to explain that in court. But discord says that dragon pilot is super safe and done by a highly qualified tinkerer, who just happen to be between min wage gigs and living in his mother’s basement.

They apparently started a sale today that includes a wiring harness with a comma purchase. The current one includes support for CAN-FD so no red panda would be needed with a new comma. Plus access to newer driving models which should be better.

I know a Bay Area F150 user with OpenPilot if you want to take a ride before making a decision (although with the 30-day return policy, it's pretty easy just to try it yourself). The F150 uses the exact same CAN bus commands as the MachE, so it would be a good comparison for you.

Sure, that'd be very cool. Right now, i'm wondering how to open up the back of my Mach E so I can access the IPMA.
