I'll second that. My brother in law put similar gizmos in the trunk and under hood area of my mom's car after some rodent damage. Car's always parked outside, seldom driven. The devices he used have motion sensors and when set appropriately will respond to motion by flashing a strobe and emitting high-frequency sounds the little buggars hate. Easy to install in the top of the frunk, that vent cover pops off.
Cats won't cause this type of damage but do control rodents that cause this damage. I'd rather have cats than mice or rats. Stray cats can be locked out of your garage but mice have a way of getting in.
That will be hard. There are over 18,000 dealerships in the U.S. and there are dozens of rats in each one.
I started doing that, but I still found droppings and the occasional dead critter in the vehicle. I switched to mothballs - apparently that don’t like the smell of those. Peppermint may be a better choice, because the smell of mothballs persists long after you remove them.
