looking at trading in my CR1 for the GT for more power and excitement. Also to hopefully eliminate some of the bouncy ride. My commute is about 90 miles mainly freeway. I can charge at work but just worried about the smaller battery. I get roughly anywhere from 2.9-3.5klw on my commute when i can keep my foot out of it. Any feed back would be great thanks.

The battery is the same size as your current car.

i should have worded that differently. Yes you are correct but I would be going to 4x and the epa is 270. where as my epa is 305 2x on my cr1

I average 3.3 mi/kWh on my commute in my GT, although traffic is heavy in the morning and abysmal at night, so my average speed on the freeway is 45 mph in the morning and 25 mph coming home.

IIRC the GT is rated 260 and the PE 250. Premium 4x is 270. Regardless, way more than your 180 mile round trip. Unless you live in the mountains of CA and cold weather range loss is a big concern, or you're gonna really put your foot into it, seems like you should have no range anxiety.

The GT is rated at 270 and the GTPE is 260. Those ratings do seem a little more optimistic than the Premium and RT1 models though. From my experience, I was seeing 3.0+ mi/kwh in mixed driving and 2.7-2.9 mi/kwh on highway stretches in my GTPE before the winter weather hit, so I think OP would have nothing to worry about. in Cali.

EPA rates the GT at 270. However, my 270 rated FE had far more range, albeit mostly in summer conditions. We'll see how it goes with the GT in the dead of the winter. Basically in winter plan on charging nightly, and in summer every 2nd to maybe 3rd day if you don't want to worry about the range at all. I have about a 40 mile each way trafficy commute. mixed speeds from stop and go to 70.

by the way, the GT is still bouncy and needs to be handled somewhat, but not as loose and somewhat annoying as the premium was. the ME is not a luxury cruise boat. Even in blue cruise, it needs to be "handled", fi that is the right word for it. I'm enjoying it!

I don't know if the epa is based on Whisper, or whether they've got some algorithm that considers an average use of switching between all the modes.

If you're driving for the fun factor, I'd imagine that you'll be mostly driving on "unbridled", with your foot on it, every chance you get. I mean, I certainly would if I had a GT. Of course, I'd also say goodbye to my tires sooner.

Maybe consider driving your current vehicle to how you think you'll drive the GT, and see how your calculations change. That should at least give you some indication. Either way, if it's not super cold, you should be able to adjust your driving style make your round trip.

I use Engage 100% of the time. Plenty of power when needed.
It's the same power in all modes, the pedal position to achieve that power is different.

I've had my GTPE for about 3 weeks
I commute daily - 20 miles one way - (math says 40 round trip!)
45 minutes on a leg depending on traffic (low is 38 mins - Max is 1 hr)
I average between 2.8 to 3.1 mi/kWh. (low is 2.4ish and Max is 3.5ish)
Unbridled - 1 Pedal
Surface street->DC Beltway->Surface Street.
The DC Beltway portion is half at speed and half at Stop-n-Go.
( for a visual - BW Pkwy -> I-95 is at speed - then I-95 to Conn Ave is all stop and go)
Reverse is pretty much the same on average.

How is the magneride on those roads? I commute from Alexandria, VA to Southern Maryland across the WW Bridge, so very similar conditions.

I drive from Franconia, across the bridge and up 295 to Hyattsville - when one pedal is turned off, it's a smooth ride. I frankly don't feel the bumps others refer to. Mine is a black GT (took delivery on Halloween). I've also trained it already to be north of 260 range - again, even with one pedal off. If I drove one pedal, I'd probably see much more gain (but a much less pleasant ride).

Magneride is pretty great. I've haven't driven a nonGTPE so can't compare. My last commuter was a Fusion Energi so that was a fluffy couch in comparison - but compared to my track prepped e46 M3 (teeth chipping stiff) - the GTPE is way more compliant.
