Yeah, but there's usually a huge disconnect between having updated firmware available and actually pushing it out to affected cars. Reading the reuters article is amusing. For example:

Umm... if the dealer is doing it, it isn't over the air...

Oh, and this is discouraging:

So, they don't have a fix yet, and might not for several months yet. :(
News reports don’t always get all the technical details correct ?‍♂

Since I’m having syncing issues can I double dip and have dealership work on recall and do a complete update of the car?

I have it for my car. But I’m in OTA timeout and Ford hasn’t said a word since I gave them my vin.
I’ve had many an issue with my screen and the 360 camera. The other day adaptive cruise and pre collision assist crapped out while parked in a parking space.

Quoted from Consumer Reports, the symptom is " a software error might make them show a blank, frozen, or distorted image."
And the article further says the OTA fix will be sometime between July and September.

Per NHTSA, Affected vehicles are equipped with SYNC4 software versions between 1.7 and
1.9

Haven’t had issues with our MME but our F-150 had pretty significant issues for a while, for maybe three months about half the time the backup camera was blanked out for 60 seconds or so after startup.

I'm making an assumption but current 21-23 Mach-E sync version 4.0.24127_PRODUCT is listed as 2.1.6, and is probably not affected.
For 21 F150, latest version is 4.0.23159_PRODUCT / 1.7.9 which may be affected?

Looks like from the attachment, as of early May only 8,949 Mach-E were affected, I assume to have the SYNC4 version above. So, out of perhaps 80-100,000? vehicles produced during that time, most of us will be unaffected.

How is this “very dangerous”?
Freeze screen and delayed screen are very dangerous. I almost hit a car and a human several times. Black screen is easy to deal with. People may say that it is driver responsibility to check the surroundings. One could argue that does a toilet bowl user have to keep looking into the bowl all the time to see if a snake would show up.

Have you experienced this? What happens?

I don’t remember ever noticing a failure with mine.
Yes. Frozen screen is hard to catch. The delayed screen is the worst. One time the screen delayed for about 5-10 seconds. A car was right behind my MME but the screen showed no car in the back (5-10 second delayed video feed).

so, it’s highly unlikely that I’d find a large, dangerous snake in the toilet where I live, but I’ll keep it in mind ?

Seriously though, if the camera is not working, you do have exterior and interior mirrors. You can also just turn your head to the back, old-school. Don’t let the car move unless you know your surroundings.

Apparently it's resolved with an APIM update, so _hopefully_ we'll see something coming OTA or via FDRS soonish
Soon™
It is supposed to be resolved via OTA.
Soon™
So, they don't have a fix yet, and might not for several months yet.
On a serious note:
1. They're required to send out letters for real recalls cause some folks don't do this internet thing. (Mind boggling, I know).
2. Soon™. ;)
