The service advisor that recommended it by phone wasn't there when I dropped off the car. The ones there couldn't explain to me what is was and didn't have a technician available at the time.

If the recall involves the BMS, then I would do it. Otherwise optional. Ask them why they are recommending that.

On the other hand, if it’s part the recall, it should be free.

Maybe it is more like actually physically recentering or balancing it to keep from wearing out the suspension unevenly.. sorta like tire rebalancing. I’m sure the primary symptom is range estimated that change rapidly.

I can only imagine this is some kind of Charge to 100/ discharge to 0 shenanigan. I’m calling “meh” on this one. It is within the realm of possibility that this would cause your BMS to relearn 0. It is equally likely to relearn 0 wrong based on temperature and humidity or some such.

I got the same quote for the battery balance job myself. Here's a tip, don't accept the first price the service advisor offers you. My service advisor saw I was hesitant and instead offered to kick me in the balls for only $50. Much better deal so I went with the ball kicking and saved money.

I hope that’s not what they do. Both things (especially the discharge to 0) are bad.

And they have to drive your car for 300 miles to do it?

Yeah, pretty sure that wouldn’t be the process. Would take them 4 hours plus by itself to discharge completely.

The process likely looks like this-
Step 1- charge your car
strep 2- charge your credit card

I never change the air in my tires based on mileage. doing it seasonally is more important - winter air is different from summer air - just like gasoline blends.
