I know others have talked about checking HVB state of health. I’ve never really considered checking it. Consequently, I haven’t looked into how I would do that. I do have the (OBDLink MX+ OBD2 Bluetooth Scanner for iPhone, Android, and Windows), along with the OBD link app, but have never plugged it into this car. Admittedly, I have limited experience with it. Could I check SOH with that or do I need FDRS or dealer to do that?
Yes, you can check it with your OBDLink MX+. I am not sure what the OBD link app can show, but as thenew3 mentioned, CarScanner is a great app to use with the MME. It has the MME profile already included - you just have to load it up when you open the app. Open the predeveloped dashboards and scroll through them until you find the one that includes HVB SoH.

I think this is from the car scanner app, I have two apps. Does this include that HBV thing you were looking for or ? I ran a scan today.

Thank you Mike.
I’ll give it a go this week. It will be interesting, because I try to be as mindful as I can with the battery.

I had Discount Tire install replacement OE tires on my MME today @ 43,400 miles: Michelin Primacy A/S 225/55R19. I was trying to hold our for longer, but driving/slipping in the rain Saturday night convinced me to replace. New tires feel much better.

Has anyone tried the Michelin Defender 2 (235 55 19) for the premium? I read it's supposed to be a lowerish rolling resistance tire. Figured it wouldn't handle worse than the OE Primacy. Have had amazing treadware on other heavy vehicles with the original Defender.

Interesting that the tire discussion turned into a charging discussion. Everything I have read says there are two things that will extend the life of a lithium ion battery. #1 charge it daily, #2 don't charge over 90 percent daily
To elaborate, I watched an interview with a battery chemist/engineer. He said in hot weather (over 70 F) the sweet spot is keeping your SoC between 50% and 80% when possible. It reduces the elasticity that occurs when charging if you do that. In cold weather it doesn't matter because in the cold, there is very little chemical activity in the battery when not in use. So your SoC high or low, won't impact battery life.

I think the interview was on State of Charge but it might have been The Fully Charged Show as well.

I think it is possible that both are true. The GT spec tires are mst likely not as efficient as the Primacy A/S tires that came on the Premium model like yours and mine. And I think it likely also that the range reduction may not be as pronounced or as noticeable for people who do not do long range driving exclusively as I do. But my analysis has not changed. I’m still having to stop for power more often than I used to when I drive from one home to the other. I prefer not to stop.
Rich I can't locate your original post. Which tires are you talking about that are hitting your range and what size? I ask about the size because I'm thinking about going from a 225 on the Premium to a 235 or 245 (whichever is available). I get they are more efficient but I hate the look of the skinny tires. They look like wagon wheels. ?

I believe Defender is a truck tire, so expect more noise.

Pierre,
There is a thread “Tire Suggestions” where my first entry on this subject is #66. You can go there if you like for more background. It’s not my intention in any way to initiate or participate in a dispute on whether the Hankooks are good or bad. My initial entry there was simply to warn others of my own unexpected experience having purchased them and put some miles on them. There have been a number of people who have tried to help me to explain in some other way the otherwise unexplainable immediate and definite range loss from the day I had the tires changed. Others have said they have suffered no range loss, and I do not dispute their experience. It just is not my experience. I now have 4,000 miles on them, and my best estimate at this point is that the range loss is in the neighborhood of 6%. That 6% is the amount of immediate loss from just before the new tires to just after.

I can agree with you on the “skinny tire” look. I’ve had a lot of cars that I’ve modified to varying degrees. For me, in years past, better performance always wound up with louder exhaust, firmer ride, wider tires, etc. I also spent a number of years at every level of the car show circuit, so the way a car looks is not lost on me. The MachE for me is a car that I purchased to simply provide free transportation between my two homes (230 miles apart), and I don’t plan any modifications to it. That being said, if I wasn’t concerned about maximizing range or the potential need to install tire chains, I would probably have gone with slightly wider tires.

Wouldn’t you expect a well-worn tire with significantly less tread to have lower rolling resistance than a brand new tire? I’m curious what your complaint is.

Traction = rolling resistance. If my current OEM tires weren’t down to an unsafe level of tread, why would I replace them. The idea isn’t to get better efficiency with brand new tires - it is to not take too big of a hit.

Hey Mike, just to clarify, the App Store has “Car Scanner” and “Car Scanner ELM” with different developers. Which one to get?

Has anyone ever looked into the Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3 as an all season tire ? My primary focus would be to reduce noise and increase general level of comfort/smoothness of ride.

I agree with you in every way!

I was going into winter with 3-4/32’s of tread left on tires that had gone 48,000 miles. It was the right time for new tires. I would have expected 1% or maybe 2% range loss with new tires. I just didn’t expect 6% loss. Others were saying that they had no range loss with these tires. I’m not complaining, I just made a bad choice.

The one I have is Car Scanner ELM OBD2 by 0vZ.
