Agree that they need to offer it again. Odd why they haven't yet.

Small clarification... It's not actually integration with EA membership. Totally separate. The Ford EA discount just happens to be the same 25% discount that the EA Pass+ offers.
They won't offer it again until it's proven to work, which is why you're testing it. They also have an issue with using the free hours FIRST with the $50 plan, so they have to work that out.

Is the DirectPass easier to use? I've tried P&C 4 times and got it to work 2 of the 4. Not exactly sure I'm doing it right because it's so far NOT been Plug and Charge. Rather 5 clicks on the screen, couple clicks in the app, plug and unplug the car again. Then it starts charging.
It's called Pass+. Open EA app, swipe charger, plug in. Don't touch EA screen.

My personal experience with it has been 1) pull up to EA station, 2) plug in, 3) that’s it. I never have to press a button.
That's not using EA, that's using Plug and Charge with Ford.

I always have had to activate the station. PITA as it's like 8 clicks into somewhere in the app. If I don't the EA station always kicks back "Connection Error".

I know the P&C part is not EA, but I was invited to the membership portion of BOCN. It cost $50 for the year. I was just listing exactly how I utilize it (because that’s what he asked) by just plugging it in and getting the discount that’s part of the membership.

It's worked perfectly on the ~50 EA charges I've done while subscribed. But I'd already used up my free kWh prior to that.

Right, that's the problem. If you still have free hours, it isn't using them.

I think Tim used up all his free hours a while ago. P&C still worked well even after his balance reached zero.

I have similar story. I just barely used up my free 250 kWh this week. 2 weeks before my expiration date. I was supposed to get 500 kWh per an e-mail from Ford when my car was delayed but all I ended up with was the base 250. No biggie....as it turns out I barely used up the 250 the even if they had awarded me with 500 kWh, it would have gone to waste.

On my last charge....I had 18 kWh balance remaining. It looks like EA used that first and then charged my card on file for the remaining amount of energy. Unfortunately it used the non-member rate of $0.43 per k but I understand why that happened.

So now I have turned off P&C because I have the EA membership for $4/month which provides a lower rate per k. I will just have to initiate charging via the app on my phone going forward because P&C would cost me more. Or at least that is how I understand it anyway.....

so if i had to summarize my understanding of the Blue Oval Charge Network:
  • being enrolled in BOCN enables plug and charge for Electrify America only (? i think i saw a screenshot of someone's FP app with another P&C network)
  • this is apparently the only way to have P&C functionality on EA
  • for the "free credits" P&C works great (if it works, lol)
  • once you've used up the free credits, you'll get charged at the non-member rate (but with a discount?). if you want to enroll in one of EA's bundle plans, P&C won't use that plan, thus you have to turn off P&C and go back to "plug and tap"
  • even though EVgo is part of the BOCN, P&C only works if you set it up in the EVgo app
  • free credits only apply to EA, not EVgo
is this a correct description?

if so, what is the point of EVgo being in the BOCN? is there some kind of discount applied if you are enrolled in BOCN and you plug in a ford product to charge at an EVGo station?

I think the point of the BOCN is so you don’t *have* to set up accounts with multiple charge point providers. You currently won’t get the membership rates or bells and whistles like P&C. But you can activate chargers from providers on the BOCN via FordPass and be able to charge with only one account.

I crossed out the wrong statements above.

Once you use up the free credits, you will be charged the EA non-member rate, no discount.

If you want to use EA Pass+ ($4 per month, enroll the morning of a trip, cancel immediately after and it takes effect in 30 days), simply open the EA app, swipe the charger, and plug in. You do NOT need to touch or tap the charger, you do not need to disable Plug and Charge.

That's one method (activate in the EA app before plugging in), but there are also others.

You can also turn off P&C as they said, and plug in first. Then you have the choice of either activating the session in the EA app, or by activating simply by tapping the phone to the charger's NFC spot. (That also saves a little confusion with newbies because it's consistent with the EA screen telling people to Plug In First. It also avoids P&C grabbing the session first in the rare event your EA app swipe didn't go through for some reason.)

Before I was using P&C, phone tapping was my preference as I found it to be the easiest. Saves the extra step of selecting the charger location and the charger# within the app. Phone tapping automatically knows that.

And even if one prefers one method over another, it's good to know all of them for backup purposes, as sometimes one or the other will have a glitch.

Welp, mine expired. And when I try to get to the Connected services to purchase I get hung on a black screen "Connecting to vehicle this may take a few minutes". (Wow windows messages in the browser too!).
So I'm basically broken and can't resubscribe. Not that it ever saved me even a few steps, so I'm not heart broken for sure.

Edit:
I tried several times yesterday with no luck. On the 4th attempt today I was able to get into the connected services. But BOCN is nowhere to be found. Nav, BC sub etc is there but no BOCN option.

Poking around in the service records it states i don't own the car, so maybe that's part of the problem. It's only be 46 days that I have owned it.
