Lee, will try that…..
The instructions I have say-
Set the ignition to ON- this means step on brake, push start/stop button, RIGHT?
No, just push the start/stop button so the green light is flashing. That's KOEO (key on engine off) mode.

Update as of 9-4-2023 , Bill P

1. Car is still in “ Brake Service Mode”.
2. Car is drivable, brakes work, except no EPB, (getting chime & warnings)OK clears
3. Have tried various written instructions on activate/ deactivate service mode
4. Purchased an ANCEL FD500 scanner, L.S.S…….., did not work, returning
5. I believe my problem may be related to the recent update that added, automatically setting the parking brake when put in park.
6.Have appointment tomorrow, for tech to deactivate using ford scan tool.
7. Plan is to have tech deactivate service mode w/ scan tool, THEN try activating & deactivating using written instructions.

I’m disappointed with this whole issue …………. Bill Pitman

Would this possibly help me?! Service info, wonder how up to date all is?

Hi Bill,

I have rotors and pads to put on my Mach-E and I want to verify that your car was put into and taken out of maintenance mode manually with the instructions posted on this thread and not with the code reader.

Thanks,
-Joel

I have updated workshop instructions dated 8-11-23
One thing you must do, is make sure you have no DTC codes in the ABS module.
I will take pictures of the instructions and post on here.
How many miles do you have on your Mach-e?! Bill P

Oh, you didn't mention you had codes? What codes were in there?

Duh, don’t recall & didn’t write down, Duh……
I also, within the last several days, rotated rear tires.
I checked EPB connectors & wiring, didn’t see any issues.
I did note that the wrap over the wires goes right up to the connector.
The CSP shows 2 wires exposed and about 2 inches clear from connector back to the wrap! Bill P

Ugh, I hate this new terminology. Why the heck can’t they call it “accessory mode” and “run mode” like in the old days? Much simpler and perfectly descriptive. ??

Interesting thing to note about the ABS module. I had reset my PCCM (steering control module) which triggered ABS DTCs for some reason, Which cascaded to the hill assist disabled warning as well.
Cleared DTC's and all my symphony of errors disappeared.

I wouldn't have thought to clear DTC's to exist a service mode, logically it would have been exit, then clear. But I guess Microsoft still has it's fingers in at least the logic side of this.

Not sure how old the days are you are referring to. I've been in the industry since the mid 90s and it has always been KOEO. ?‍♂ Since we don't have an engine or a key, ignition on seems to be the best choice of terminology. Though we're not igniting anything either... ??

GM always referred to Accessory or Run in their documents through the ‘80s (I never bought a ‘90s GM car or service manual so I don’t know about after). Accessory or Run would apply just fine to our EVs too and would be way less confusing to this old dog. ?‍♂?

Sorry I didn’t see this thread a couple months ago. Way back in April 2021 I had a similar issue. Had to get in and out of brake service mode. Had a problem. Looked at DTCs. Figured out that I hadn’t plugged one of the electronic brake wires back in. But I certainly would have recommended checking DTCs.

Thank you for posting the instructions Bill. I have a 2021 Mach-E 4 Select with 16K miles on it. The brakes grab at slow speeds and make a rubbing noise when applying at real slow speeds.
