2022 MachE Select AWD SR,
Country flag
Hey all, I've been lurking here for a few weeks. I finally picked up a 2022 MachE Select AWD SR. I found some winter rims and snow tires that I'm planning on putting on this weekend. I'm in the habit of servicing the brakes spring and fall on all my vehicles since I live in a northern climate and we use a lot of salt on the roads and they tend to seize. Can anyone point me in the right direction in regards to a how-to on servicing the brakes? I'm sure it's not all that difficult but I like to know torque specs etc. before I begin tearing into something for the first time. I already saw the post on "brake service mode" Lots of good info in here.

Be careful... I had done my own brakes as well in the past, on my cars and on my motorcycles. I've also switched out rubber brake lines for stainless steel braided ones before, and gravity-bled brake systems.

Do you have access to FDRS? I wouldn't touch this car's brake system without that at a minimum.

There are several computer modules and sensors tied into the Mach E's brakes.

I suggest you consider chatting up your local Ford dealership's service advisor and (if they let you) their EV technician before you break open the brake system. No harm in that and they might steer you around a messy attempt. Good Luck!

You don’t need to service them that often IMO. Plenty of salt here and I only do brakes every 5 years. Give the caliper a rock when you have the wheel off and check if it’s free, then it’s good.

You only service your brakes every 5 years? That’s crazy for around here. I could probably only do it once in the spring but it doesn’t take very long and makes the brakes last longer. I dry 30,000kms/year. I learned from my buddy who was a mechanic.

Yeah, I’m not planning on doing anything unless I have some sort of documentation on the correct procedure. Hopefully it’s not that difficult. I would hate to have to book it in to the dealership all the time. Has anyone come across any sort of service manual?

Just to emphasize the point that was made above - you cannot service the Mach-E brakes without having FDRS, which is a subscription, and requires an adapter.

So you are saying I will have to wait until someone comes up with a software hack to work on my own brakes?;)

Well that sucks.

No, I am saying that no such hack will exist and you can't work on your own brakes.

I just looked in a version of the Mach E service manual... believe me, it refers the Ford technician / mechanic to "follow the prompts on Screen XYZ" when servicing the brake system.

These cars ain't what cars used to be...

Sounds that way. I’ll have to pick the dealer with the nicest lounge I guess.:p

Pick the dealer with the most approachable EV Tech and Service Rep. They are out there... just not at all the dealerships. Bring them pizza ;)
