I'll second the Emporia 48 amp charger. I installed one at my office, and another at home. On their recommendation I hardwired both. There is excellent info on their website. Hardwired you can charge at the full 48 amps. Adding an outlet drops the capability.

The ability to vary the charge rate in the app is super. At home that 60 amp circuit is shared with pumps for my Koi pond that pull about 15 amps and run 24/7, so I use the home charger running at a lower charge rate, but could always shut off the pond temporarily and ramp up the ev charger if I needed to.

I recently had the Emporia charger installed on a hardwired 60 A circuit. The car pulls max of 44.9A per the emporia app, never the full 48 even though that’s how it’s set. Ford app shows 10.9Kw or occasionally 11 kW which works out to match the Emporia minus some efficiency loss.
For you other Emporia users is this your experience as well or is my onboard charger having an issue?

I've never paid attention to the "actual" charge rate I'm getting. Will have to look next time I charge at the office.

11KW net is about as good as it gets. I max out at 10.5 or so. I don’t think you have an issue.

I'll try to remember to check the next time I crank mine up to 48amps. I have found that 24amps is great in the winter, and "Excess Solar" is great in spring/summer.

Just plugged in - currently charging a 50% battery at 11,200 to 11,300 watts give or take. Don't know how to translate that to amps.

My math says 11300w is 47A.
thank you for showing it IS possible.

PS - my charger is only about 20' from the breaker. Was thinking that the longer the run is there would be some amp losses depending on cable size.

wire could get pricey for an 80A charger... Google (which apparently knows everything) says...

Typical sizes of wires for 100 Amp Service are 4 AWG or 2 AWG for copper wiring and 2 AWG, 1 AWG, or 1/0 AWG for aluminum or copper-clad wiring.

The Ford charge Station Pro requires #3 copper wire for 80A operation.

You can’t unless you know the actual voltage.

It’s a pretty reasonable bet to use the nominal 240 V for a home level 2 to get in the “neighborhood”.
If you use 235 you get 48A if you use 245 you get 46A. My “240 voltage” runs 244 pretty consistently.

With EV’s being around for over a decade, lessons have been learned through experience. Such as, a standard, $15 14-50 outlet providing power to a household appliance for an hour or two is no issue but supplying 40a to an EV for 6-8 hours has caused many to fail. As I consider adding a 100a circuit and installing an 80a EVSE for future proofing, are there other weak links in home systems, like circuit breakers or breaker box buses, that could be an issue as we draw higher amperage for extended periods?
If you do an 80A EVSE on a 100A circuit, you'll be hard-wiring, so the weakest link in all this, the outlet, will be eliminated. Of course, you don't have to do a 80A EVSE to eliminate the outlet. That could easily be done with a 32A EVSE. Or even a 24A one.

What's the voltage at your house? Car could be throttling the amps if you are at 250+ volts. I'm right off of the transformer for our neighborhood, so I see voltages of up to 252 from time to time.
