Our pool vehicle at work is an F-150 Lightning so we got an EVSE installed recently. I decided to top up this afternoon for the first time, since I am going out of town for the holiday after work. The charger is some strange brand and was sent by the leasing company we get work vehicles from; Phihong Technology Co Model Name AXLU111001D. I know our power at work is 208 volt, so the charge rate will be a bit slower than with 240. It works fine for the Lightning.

My car plugs in, initiates a charge just fine, but some short time later the app changes to say "starting charger". I tried twice. The first time the lights around the charger button had changed red. The second time it seemed normal but had still stopped charging.

Is there any way to see any further feedback anywhere? The charging doesn't even show up in charge history in Fordpass. It added less than 5 miles before failing. The EVSE screen still implied it was ready to deliver power, so there was no feedback there saying the charge was cancelled or anything.

I am wondering if my car disliked the strange voltage somehow.

I wonder if there is a security feature on that charger?

I say this because when I was working we had PHEVs for run about. They had chargers installed for them. One day a Tesla pulls in and plugs in. A half hour later security is in my office looking for the owner of the Tesla. Said the charger reported an unauthorized vehicle plugged in.

That is interesting. I wondered that too. Is there anything in the J1172 cable that would send vehicle information?

Any message in FordPass?
Nope. Maybe next week I'll have to plug in sometime and just sit in the car to see if anything comes up on a screen.

No. But some EVSEs come with software that management can use to control access, mainly for condos, apartments, and businesses.

That won’t matter. If the charger doesn’t like 208v, the charger won’t charge the Lightning. If it charges the Lightning, the voltage isn’t the issue.
