Chimes Sound Staticky/distorted

Hey all,

Recently the different chimes and alerts (such as needing to put the seatbelt on) in my 2021 Mach E premium have sounded distorted, almost like the speakers were turned up to high and can't pass the noise properly but the volume is still the normal level. I don't think it is happening with things like the radio/siriusXM but I am hard of hearing so I may just be missing it under all the other frequencies. I've checked all the sound levels, everything is set to factory default, etc.

Has anyone else run into this issue before?

Happened to me a few months ago, it went away on its own.

Maybe the sound is coming from the IPC speaker. That makes it sound like an old video game instead of the normal tones/chimes.

I think this happens if the 12v battery is low. It goes away on it's own, nothing to do to fix it.

Hmm, that is something different. I’ve heard the IPC different sounding beeps occasionally, but not that feedback sound in the video.

Sounds like one of those alien attack movies when they start blocking our radio and satellite signals!

Is it just the beeps or does it sound static with the radio on?

Here's one example. I don't know why it won't let me post another example of the chimes that occur after GPS says to use voice commands. Does that seem like it might be the IPC speaker?

If it is happening during music, it's not as noticeable to me at least. I've turned the volume up loud just to see and it doesn't sound like it is distorted in the same way as the chimes do.

I think I've had that issue in the past but yeah, I don't think it's the same as the issue I'm having now unfortunately.

I'm wondering if the speaker itself might be bad if it's a separate speaker from the B&O sound system.

I've seen several reports of bad center speakers on the forum. Dealers replaced the center speaker to fix it in each case...

You might try testing some things to see If your center speaker has blown out. There's a speaker test in the built-in diagnostics app. I can't remember if it goes through each speaker one by one, but that'd be a great way to test.

To enter diagnostics, first load the FM Radio app. Then hold volume down and previous track for several seconds. Look for the speaker test in there (I think in DSP or maybe Audio; can't remember for sure).

You could also try the fade/balance options while music is playing.

Good to know others have been having issues with their speakers. I didn't even stop to think to search for blown center speakers since I was still hearing sound but now that you mention it, I see a lot of threads.

I ran the speaker test and it was basically a walk around test with a high pitch beep. I wasn't able to hear any distortion on the speakers but I don't think I was able to hear anything from speaker 6. Not sure if there's a map somewhere that associates the speaker numbers to location.

So I've been having this issue for the past few weeks since a code upgrade. Everything from music (SirusXM and YouTube music) to Waze voice is affected. It's coming out of all speakers, and more than just Android Auto. I have already restarted Sync a few times, no luck. Hence I believe it was a recent code inflicted issue.

Interesting - you're hearing a similar distortion? Is it very noticeable during music? My hearing isn't very good so I might just not be hearing it besides when it's the basic chime noise.
