I have a 2021 purchased January 2021. It has 19,000 miles. I would never thought of replacing it until it doesn't start just like every other car I have owned. I am really glad I read this. But, please educate me. What happens if it dies so different than an ICE vehicle? What is it used for?
Well, the doors open electronically. How would they work with a dead battery?

Thank you all for the updates - 2023 GTPE - with your advice I will schedule a warranty check b4 it expires 36 monthes or 36k and ask for the 12v battery to be checked and hopefully replaced .

and if it is not I will replace battery and add a dongle for a suitable trickle charger
as I understand a trickle charger must be a certain type of? Low amps .?
Just make sure it’s an AGM charger.

I had my car in for a final check by the dealership before my warranty expired. I told them to check the 12v battery and said they tend to fail around the 3 year mark. The dealer replaced the battery under warranty and told me the battery has its own 3 year warranty as well. I would encourage everyone to see their dealer for service and have theirs checked while still covered.
I just did this when I got my wiper fluid hoses replaced. I told them to check my 12V if it's time to get it replaced. They said it was fine.

Either it was fine or they didn’t check it properly. Hopefully the former.

That is what I am wondering. If they just told me it's fine. I am coming up to 3 years in May. I am planning on a month long vacation backpacking. Will be leaving the car. I probably will want the battery replaced before that.

As long as the car is not locked, the doors will open at least 20 times with a dead battery (or if the battery is disconnected). There is a capacitor in each door module that stores enough power to open the door latch.

My car is locked 95% of the time. My doors lock automatically and I don't know anybody that leaves their doors unlocked when it's parked in the public. So it looks like the capacitors are wasted technology.

I was only answering Walter's question if the doors could be opened (unlatched) with a dead LVB and yes they can as long as the car was unlocked.

My car spends more time at home in my garage than in public so I don't want the doors to automatically lock and I rarely lock them in public anyway. If I had a situation where the LVB went dead while the car was locked, I can use my little NOCO jump starter to power up and unlock the doors.

I havent locked my doors my entire life. Growing up in maine I never took my keys out of the car, or even out of the ignition. Until the mach-e with PaaK I always left key fobs in the door pocket 24/7.

If I needed to lock my doors I would move. (we actually now have keys to our house front door for the first time in 10 years)

I heard about a guy like you and he had his car stolen from the Walmart parking lot. He told his insurance company that he didn't lock the doors and they wouldn't accept his claim since he didn't lock the car doors.

Some have reported that the keypad on the door works when the LVB fails, but it isn't lighted. So if you can see where the numbers are, and enter the correct code, it will allow you to open the door.

It sounds feasible, but I have not tested it so I cannot confirm if this is correct or not.

Did mine after 3 years, it was affecting the ability to do updates because the 12V battery charge was lower. Since then, software was tweaked to be better at charging the 12V and there are more tools to monitor charge levels. Mine was fading after three years, so I'd recommend keeping an eye on it.
