Got a quote from my local Ford dealer to replace my high voltage battery junction box. My car is out of warranty and it is a select., so it is not covered by recall. Has anyone had this service done and what did you have to pay for part and labor? Thank you.

You have more than 100,000 miles on it? Because otherwise it would be covered under the EV warranty.

I would estimate the actual repair cost to be around $2500 (part+labor).
Was yours replaced under the EV battery warranty, or the bumper to bumper warranty? My bumper to bumper is expired, as well as my powertrain warranty. I have 63,000 miles.

Google:: "Electric Vehicle Component Coverage: 8-year or 100,000-mile warranty on the battery and electric motors. This warranty covers the high-voltage battery and related components, and the HVBJB is considered part of that system. "

I hope that Ford determines that it is indeed part of that system, because when my dealer called me, they told me it was going to cost ME $3593. I told them to not start any work until I spoke with Ford customer service first. The problem is that dealers, in my experience, either don't know what they are doing with the car, or are dishonest. This is why I wanted to reach out and see if anyone had actually had the repair done and had to pay for it.

I don’t know for sure but I think all the HVBJB have been covered by warranty at this point.

not a lot of them are over 100,000 miles and none are over 8 years.

Shop rates vary considerably. The OP is in California and rates here could drive the cost up considerably. I've seen shop rates in excess of $400/hour... (But I agree it should be covered under the EV Component warranty.)

Some mach-e user in germany got new HVBJB after the standard "car warranty" as well and it was covered by the 8 year ev warranty.

I would confirm with Ford as it sounds like it should be covered under the 8 year warranty. Or maybe, just go get your car and find a dealer that is not so "swarmy".

Has it actually failed?

Tell them to look up TSB 25-2247 for replacement instructions. And look up the warranty coverage on part# NK4Z-10C666-E in PTS which is the HVBJB. They will find it's covered under the 8 year/100k EV warranty.

Here's a cost breakdown for HVBJB replacement (if the EV warranty is expired):

Parts:
NK4Z-10C666-E (HVBJB) $671
W717859-S439 (Bolts) $25
VC-13-G (Yellow coolant) $20

Labor:
Replace HVBJB 5.7 hr x $200 = $1140
Reprogram software 0.7 hr x $200 = $140

Total: $1996

You can adjust labor rates, but if the cost is more than about $2500 you are being ripped off somehow.

I'm sure this will be covered under warranty as long as you go to a dealer that knows what they are doing.

Thought I would share my story about the HVBJB since you asked if anyone had it replaced on their own dime. I posted all of this in the massive HVBJB thread a couple of years ago but this is the condensed version:

Lee (post above) listed the proper average price for this repair. In early 2023, I had my HVBJB replaced on my own dime because I didn't want it to fail. I drive back and forth to the airport (2 hour drive for me) twice a month and a breakdown would be extremely inconvenient. At that time, Ford had not come out with the recall on it yet. I purchased the part for $600 myself online and had it replaced at Serramonte Ford. I was charged about $160 for misc. parts and programming. Labor was around $1100. Total was $1860. Instead of sending the part back to receive the core charge, I sent it to Lee and he tore it apart. Good thing I had it replaced as he said it was about to fail. Lee has a thread on here with the HVBLB torn down with lots of photos describing each part. After Ford came out with the recall for the HVBJB I called them inquiring about a refund. After sending in the proper paperwork and my receipts they paid me in full. I was only out the core charge.

I believe the California warranty on battery components is longer than 100k. I think 10 years and 150k miles. Not sure if it covers the HVBJB or just the battery itself.

That warranty period applies to hybrid batteries, not EVs (unfortunately).

Anyone else notice #Ford corporate is not on the Forum as much? I mean in years past, if a post like this popped up; Ford would ask the Forum member to DM them with the VIN and their dealer. Although, it essentially became a Meme here on the Forum (since the only real thing they did was to redirect you to the dealer) at least you knew Ford was at minimum "listening and watching". Maybe it's me but I just don't see as much activity from Ford on the Forum. If I am incorrect and Ford is just DMing the members directly, please let us know.
