Tell your insurance you were driving around 40 mph and heard something hit your car. You have no idea what. It will be a comprehensive claim. They won't raise you rates.
I totally agree! It's a comprehensive motor vehicle loss in CA State. File a claim. It's not your fault. You'll need to identify where and when the damage occurred to the best of your knowledge. Unknown what struck vehicle. Even a piece of foam flying on the highway at high speeds could cause this blunt damage. Sucks... Car easy to fix... you much harder. You'll need to pay your deductible whatever that is. I keep mine low for these reasons. Comp is cheaper than collision! Cost of driving...

I definitely would run that thru insurance. $3,000 is ridiculous. There was a person who suggested using a windshield repair, I would definitely try that first. It might make it barely noticeable,.

That seems really ridiculous. Any chance you have the part number?
No, not yet I just asked the service tech over the phone when he called.

I actually just ordered one and ma going to try that today or tomorrow. Fingers crossed but yeah, I'll be running it through insurance if it doesn't work.

I'm in WA so not sure if it will effect my rates or not but either way it's the best way to go. My comprehensive is at $500 so not TOO bad I suppose.

I don’t think I’ve ever looked at a GT grill in person. I assumed it was a vinyl wrap. I don’t understand what I’m looking at - is it a clear plastic that covers the vinyl section?

I found a Ford parts site that seems to list the damaged part as LK9Z8419BA (item 12 in the picture below from the linked site).

Upside is that it's a separate piece, downside is the expensive price, well over $1000 for what looks like a piece of Lexan or other clear plastic.

Looking at the crack again I don't think the windshield repair kit is going to work. The crack is only on the inside of the glass, there is honestly no physical feel to the crack and the way it is cracked it really looks like it's not all the way through to the outside, hard to explain. It's almost like a stress fracture from being hit by a blunt object.

Ya, I'd believe it... The exact price for repair at the dealer was quoted at $2896 plus tax.

Ford apparently think they're a luxury brand now and is charging a luxury tax, i.e. Porsche, Mercedes.

At least at those other other dealerships, they give you hot coffee and pastries while they rob you, Ford forgo the pleasantries and just out right mug you.

Thanks, I thought about that as an option and would probably be the one I'd go with if it wasn't for the car being so new. Just kills me to have to go that route when it has 2500 miles on it. Gggrrrr

Just to give people closure, after a lot of back and forth with Ford CS and finally elevating it to Ford Corp exec offices by sending them a letter with details, I was able to get in contact with a very nice woman who went over all the details with me and said she will look in to the situation, contact the dealer, and see what they can do.

I got a call back today and Ford agreed they will be covering the grill and have already informed the dealer to order the part, perform the replacement, and bill Ford Corp.

So good news in the end and while it was a PIA I give props to Ford for taking care of it in the end.

That's good for you. I'm really surprised they covered that.
