Ford C-Max Energi, Premium Mach-E ordered

I don’t upgrade frequently. I wait for big jumps in tech. I drove my last car, a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid, for nearly 12 years while I waited for an EV that checked 4 Boxes: (1) Crossover/SUV form factor, (2) stylish inside and out, (3) 250mi+ range, and (4) no more than $50k after tax credit.

The 2021 Mach E 4X Premium was the first EV to satisfy those criteria, and I bought it. And I’ve been generally pleased, but now I’ve learned enough about the pros and cons to have new criteria for my next EV:
  1. Still needs to be a Crossover / SUV form factor. I like the space and sitting a little higher on the road.
  2. Still needs to be stylish inside and out. I will not accept the bubble / blunt-nosed dorkmobile styling, or cheap interiors.
  3. A nice cushy suspension (the Mach E’s “sport tuning” is definitely not this).
  4. Well-insulated, quiet cabin (Mach E is pretty good in this regard).
  5. 350mi+ Range at 75mph.
  6. 15min DCFC from 10% to 90%.
  7. At least 3mi/kWh highway and 4mi/kWh city efficiency.
  8. “Level 2.5” ADAS (Eyes-on but otherwise self-driving on highways, including nav and truly automatic lane changes).
  9. No more than $60k (adjusted for inflation, probably closer to $80k).
This EV doesn’t exist yet, but I think it will within the next 10 years, and the first manufacturer to get there is gonna make a killing.

What’s your list?
-Able to tow 2500lbs.
-800v charging system or solid state battery

Manufacturers are big on subscription options, one I’d suggest for occasional use o user beware for constant use is the ability to pay for the ~10% battery not available for a road trip.

Cooled or at least ventilated seats, like heated seats would this be more efficient than lower AC temp use?

Factory installed tow for bike rack or small runaround boat (12 ft Boston Whaler) or single jet ski.

400 mile highway range in all weather conditions if that range is not possible it must instead be able to recharge a smaller highway range in comparable times to filling an ICE.
Hatchback design layout.
Manual hvac controls.
Individual control of adaptive suspension and lift off regen, none of this tied to fixed modes rubbish.
A performance trim that actually has performance not one that steers and handle like a bus with a minuscule number of seconds teaser. It also has to be able to maintain that performance across a wide level charge range.

The rest are going to be the standard subjective metrics each person has in regards to design features and interior qualities. My mach-e does the job for what I originally got it for well and while each persons requirements are different the biggest take way for me is that the next EV I get has be able to function as if it was my only vehicle without compromises it can't just be good at the 80% use case.

Open for a adding a large ev with at least 300 plus miles in AWD. Price point $70000. Must have center display. Not a Tesla for lack of quality and paint interior issues. Ford Explorer may be on the ev drawing board. Hope for a 2024-25 model.
I don’t think the first gen EV Explorer is gonna check all my boxes - the battery tech just isn’t there yet - but I’m excited to see it. I’ve always really liked the size and looks of the explorer.

The MME *may* be my last car..... I am hoping that the minor electronics like door latches, computer modules and display last 20 years. I am expecting my range requirements to drop right along with battery capacity, so I may not even need a battery replacement.

If I were to trade it in, I would want similar vehicle... but with LESS tech. Perhaps something smaller, lighter, with LESS sensor/camera/auto-drive stuff which I will NEVER use and don't want to pay for.

There is nothing like a biscuit and a beer in the frunk. Potty happens outside. I pee on the tires so everyone knows it’s mine. ??

Why can you not open the trunk after the car is shut off? I am able to do that all of the time.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I'm referencing from the driver's seat. As soon as I open the door the screen goes dark. To date, I have not found a physical Trunk Button. If you mean, can I go around the back of the car and open the Trunk??? Yes, but, I'm a lazy SOB and like to be able to open the trunk as I'm getting out of the seat. Let me know if I'm missing something.

@67 Stang Convertible don't open the door yet open the drive mode interface on sync 4 and the trunk button is on the top right corner of that screen. You should be able to open it.

I actually like the older version of the way we open the trunk and frunk through Sync. It even knew if you open the trunk before and after when you shut down it would automatically default to that top down view of the car and you would press the trunk/hatch of the car to open.

You can open it through your FOB is the only other "physical" button other than the hatch trunk button.

Sounds like a lot of people just want another Mach E with some minor tweaks.

Other people are creating a fantasy wish list of things that may never happen (fast charging, high range, light weight and low cost).

Of the above list, I don’t know that we will ever get everything at the same time. Something has to give.

Energy density for electric car batteries was the problem a hundred years ago, and is still the problem today.

You know what they said a decade ago? That we are “5-10 years away from a breakthrough.”

And yet the 2023 Model S seems awfully similar to the 2013 Model S……

Ironically, car manufacturers are actually starting to go BACKWARDS when it comes to energy density of batteries for mass production. Why? Cost.

I don’t think the 2033 Model S is going to be that much different from the 2023 when it comes to tech.
