BEVs in Hawaii default to the standard rainbow ? plate with “Electric Vehicle” on it. No personalization allowed. If you elect vanity plates or one of the specialty plates, you forego the benefits of having the EV plates — commuter lane without getting a ticket. Rather important on Oahu. Oh and you’ll still pay more in annual registration fees whether you have the plate or not.

Arizona requires us to use a dated looking "clouds" plate if we want HOV and parking benefits.

I have gone around and around about this question. My current plate references the fact I have a hybrid and my nickname, and before I had a hybrid, my plate just referenced my nickname.

There's another thread about this on here from a long time ago - or maybe it just talked about it as an off-topic thing. On there I half-jokingly said "IT IS TOO" or "YES IT IS" so when people say "that's not a Mustang!", I could just point.

True story. When i placed the order in June i checked online for availability. You can’t request vanity plates in WA until the car is already registered and has plates assigned but i wanted to start looking at options. I was sad to see PONYPWR was already taken. Even worse I saw it in Issaquah (reference for the locals) two weeks ago on a KIA Accent!!!

Just got confirmation today that we were able to get DQDT for the wife’s Mini after weeks of delay. She’s a physics teacher and there’s already a local Tesla with DVDT.

That's going to go over most people's heads.

Anyway, many of us that plan to trade our cars in are putting the plates on our current rides with the intention of transferring the registration/tags when we get our MME's. It might be getting a little late to do that for your car depending upon your build date and how backed up the DMV is. I ordered mine at the beginning of October and NJDMV is saying the end of December to get the tags
