I wonder if the car needs to be off to plug in and unplug.
Kinda odd to have to shut it off, plug in, then get back in, start it, sit there and play games, shut it off, get out, unplug, get back in, start it, and drive away.

don't think i'm super clear what you're asking, the car can definitely charge (and initiate charge) without being off, is that your question?

there was some ancillary advice about how if you turn of the HVAC in the winter it'll allow the HVAC to focus on warming the battery to make your charge speeds better but doesn't really seem to be your question

No it can remain powered up. The car itself will go into accessory mode (ignition on, engine off) when it sees that it is charging. ??

With the car DCFC and in accessory mode, if I have heat on, do I need to worry about the 12v draining or it's fine since the HVB is being charged?

It’s not really in accessory mode. It’s running but you can’t put it in drive. If the LVB icon is red on the cluster, then you must have pressed the start button without your foot on the brake.
Also, the heater runs on the HVB.

Nope. I've plugged in without turning the vehicle off many times in both my Mach E and my Lightning.
