Laughing at some of the responses as I didn’t realize it would be such a spirited topic lol… but absolutely appreciate all the helpful comments and suggestions.

Thank you very much ?
Wait…this is weird… you’re not angry, you didn’t post 10times “just answer the question”, you found the information, you understood the information, and you didn’t reject battery science.
Not sure what to do here…should we give him the code to unlock 120% battery charging??

Recently received my MME. Ordered a Premium AWD Extended Range. Window sticker shows the 270 range with the charge for the extended battery but when i got it fully charged for the first time today, (Dealership did not fully charge it) the Range shows 212 @ 100%. I have had the car for less than 2 weeks now.

Could my driving history and weather really be driving the range that far down? I have put 300miles on it, but don't drive every day. Live in Denver, weather has been between 20 at a low and about 60 at a high in the past 2 weeks. No new tires or anything like that yet either.
My GTPE gets about 190 to 200 in 30 degrees mixed driving but as low as 165 when cold and run around driving. HVAC fries mileage

No we have to wait for all the regulars to post their "It's xx degrees where I am and I get xxx miles per charge" ... So, we have at least 20 pages left before we can give out awards.

Some people think post count is like myspace friends. The more you have the more popular you "must" be.

In the cold it does'nt go as far, but at least it charges slower lol

How on earth are you averaging 1.4 miles/kWh?! Are you driving your car like you stole it with the heat at 80 degrees? On my ER RWD, the worst I do at highway speeds in cold weather is 2 mi/kWh, and that's driving near 80 mph.

I am around 3km/kwh (1.8 mi) in -24C to -30C (-11F to -22F for the Americans)

It's low but I am fine with it

What a thread! Lol, but I do have a question ( I don't even the car yet , so don't worry.. I ain't complaining) -- how can someone make sure they got the extended range battery - what setting / physical car feature can give them that peace of mind eg. setting / size of battery ? What if the dealer sucked the extra juice out of Teddy's car to give his own car the extra range (it's a pyramid scheme) !

if the big “X” on the chrome on the side doors isn‘t compelling, it’s right there in the cipher that comprises your VIN.

Lift up the rear seat, if you see 10 golf cart batteries it’s a SR and if you see 15 it’s a LR ??.

Get an OBDII scanner and the Car Scanner app - you can check the battery capacity using that. In the winter, it is less than 88 kWh, but you can definitely tell if Ford put the wrong battery in or not.

Two day old Mach-E GT should have 270 battery. Fully charged only to 212. This is wrong. Tesla Y charges to its sticker max of 330. Has anyone confronted Ford about this? The car does not have the battery capacity it is supposed to have.

Firstly: Teslas display what you want to see; they don't actually achieve that range. Secondly: as has been discussed here ad nauseam since early December, the Mach E gets further than the estimated range that is displayed. The cold weather affects efficiency, and the Mach-E's range estimator (guess-o-meter) generally overcompensates for the cold. Your range will be less than the EPA estimate in the winter, and higher than the EPA estimate in warm weather. This thread talks about how to more accurately compute your actual range, but the causes of the issue in the first place:
  1. Because the car doesn't know how far, how fast, in what conditions, etc it cannot be exact unless you actually put in a route right then - and even that is an approximation based on modeling. Thus the Guess-o-meter (GOM) is intentionally conservative as a "worst case" scenario to prevent people from getting stranded because the GOM said they can go farther than they actually can. It tends to be more conservative for this very reason; Ford has been underpromising and overdelivering on the Mach E. While that confounds newbies, doing a little research results in recognizing the issue and not being alarmed by it. By contrast Tesla overestimates their range on their GOM in all conditions; see plenty of actual "real world" driving tests by insideevs, alexonautos, edmunds, etc.
  2. ICE engines are only 30% to 40% efficient, with the majority of energy being lost as heat. In winter that is an advantage because the heat that would otherwise be wasted is used to heat the cabin. BEV's are by contrast 95% efficient with minimal energy lost as heat. In the winter the car has to use extra energy to heat the cabin. That is why they tell you to use the seat and steering wheel heaters instead of heating the cabin if you can, because there is a lot less to heat up. The chemistry of Li-ion batteries is to blame as well: the liquid electrolyte loses viscosity (and thus potency) as temps drop well below freezing. At 30 to 40 degrees F it is minimal, but once you get down to around zero or below it becomes an issue. The 2 factors (no waste heat and chemistry) combine for some loss (10% to 20%) in range once it gets down to freezing or below. Therefore in really cold (-30 degree) temps like in Alaska the car's actual range does drop by 40% to 50%. In more reasonable climates (20 degree temps) effective range drops by 20% to 30%.
  3. You CAN compensate somewhat by configuring departure times and leaving the car plugged in; this will warm the battery and the cabin using grid power. You can also remote start the car for an impromptu journey, but that doesn't necessarily warm as much as a scheduled departure.
  4. EVERY BEV experiences this issue right now; it is not unique to Ford. That is one of the reasons they are all investing so heavily in solid state batteries: "dry" batteries do not experience the issue with the electrolyte in cold weather.
