It's hard not to consider getting the Model Y now since it's available and the MME likely won't be around for many more months.

If you're truly pondering a MME, it seems to make sense to wait til at least the journalist reviews come out in September or October and the inevitable head-to-head Tesla comparison videos are made before making the decision. It's $50k-60k and I can't understand dropping that much money on a car without being fully informed about available choices.

@DaveRuns, some Model Ys have hidden cargo dirt capabilities.

There's a guy around here doing rust treatment and specialise for EVs and he put up a video just like that preventing people of that and the car he was treating in the video didn't run on dirt roads but in winter conditions road, he made holes in that panel so water and mud could drain better and he also pointed out that some of the holes already there where to small. He is also asking no imploring people watching to contact Elon Musk or an engineer at Tesla to correct this problem.

I understand how the tax credit works but I misunderstood your point. Sorry about that. You are correct that sales tax (if there is a car sales tax in your state) is based on the selling price of the new car (minus the value of any trade in here in Wisconsin) and is unrelated to whether or not you get a federal tax credit. The tax credit is received in the tax year that the car is purchased, not the next year. If we get lucky and receive our MME before the end of 2020, the tax credit is against our 2020 federal taxes (I know those taxes would be filed in 2021 but the tax liability is reduced in 2020).
You are correct.

May have already been discussed, but thought I’d ask: with Tesla about to produce a LR RWD Model Y for around $45K, would that make you consider cancelling your MME order? It made me take another look, but in the end, I’m staying put for now. Overall appearance, $8K for FSD, no tax rebate, quality issues, etc. still give me pause.

No. None of the Teslas meet my "look" and "shape" tastes.

Now, if the Volvo XC40 Recharge had a $45k price tag, I'd be looking hard at that one. Or one of the Rivians. But not any of the current Teslas.

Plus that $45,000 price is likely for a base trim (except LR). A base trim (Select) Mach-e + ER battery - $7500 tax credit is probably similar price anyway.

AND that $45K does not include any knobs or an “on” button!

The XC40 is better looking IMO than any Tesla, but I'd still not buy one. Nothing comes close (for me) looks-wise to the MME. But if I had to pick a Tesla or an XC40 Recharge ... Volvo hands down. ;)

I nominate Tesla for the ugliest car line up of the past 5 years. :p

I’ve been really torn between the Model Y and Mach E (have a preorder for both actually).

I personally like the look of the Mach E better and do feel like Ford will deliver a better finished product. The Model Y is okay but not great for finish quality.

I was invited this week to take a test drive of a Model Y. I showed up with my appointment and took a white Y out. Besides the vehicle being disgustingly filthy inside (I could write my name with my finger in the crud and dust on the dash), the tester vehicle had tech issues with the right side camera not working properly, so the car was throwing warning signs and autopilot was disabled. There were rattles coming from the backseat. The vehicle was super fast (performance model) but the ride was super harsh with the 21” wheels. I’ve read the smaller wheels have a much better ride.

The one thing that keeps me going back to the Tesla Y, candidly, is the supercharger network. I’ve been watching Electrify America’s stations on their app and throughout the entire state of Florida, the majority of the charging stations have at least 30%-50% of the chargers as broken, error or unavailable (for weeks at a time). Orlando right now has two stations completely shut down and Miami has three shut down. Tesla really has a built an excellent charging infrastructure and its their defining feature in my opinion. I pulled up Tesla’s stations and 90% had all stalls as operational (not throwing errors or reported broken). Electrify America’s Twitter page confirms people complaining about reliability and maintenance of their charging locations.

If Ford had access to a more reliable or well maintained charging network, it would be a no brainer for me. The Mach E, based on what I read, will be a better overall vehicle (and look better too).

I’m really torn and my heart wants to go with Mach E but my senses are nagging me to not discount the supercharger network being vital for long trips (I only have one vehicle). Particularly with hurricane seasons, if I ever had to evactuate again like I did for Hurricane Irma, I fear I would be SOL with electrify America’s network. Tesla had lines but they moved cars and got them charged.

Is anyone else facing the same dilemma and fears?
Just curious. Did you ever make a final decision? Your Model Y pre-order should almost be ready for delivery.

If the Performance Y with 21" wheels can get 272mi in a range test at 70mph, then I do not have a reason to doubt that the Y LR AWD can't get 300+ on 19".
Via Teslike.com/range link:https://teslike.com/ ---the Model 3 LR AWD 19 only obtains 283 miles of range at 70 mph. The Y is taller and heavier, meaning it is not as aero and range should not be as good as the Model 3.

I have every reason to believe the 272mi range at 70mph is legit for the Tesla Model Y. I've compiled a bunch of anecdotal tests done by YouTubers that documented range & efficiency below.

Model Y LR w/19" Gemini Wheels @70mph = 275mi per Tom Moloughney
Model Y LR w/20" Induction Wheels @70mph = 261mi per Bearded Tesla Guy
Model Y LR w/20" Induction wheels @65-75 = 272mi per Sean Mitchell

Model Y LR w/19" Gemini Wheels vs. Performance Y w/21" wheels @70mph = 291Wh/mi vs 285Wh/mi, respectively

Out of Spec Motoring saw 270Wh/mi @70mph on the Performance Model Y.

There's anecdotal evidence that efficiency on the Performance 21" is the same if not better than the 19" and 20" non-performance.
