Do you consider the Mach-E an SUV?

Ford makes the car.
Ford gets to name the car.
Ford named it a Mustang.
Therefore it's a Mustang.

As to what makes a real Mustang, well, that's subject to a lot of debate. And my first entry into that debate would be a Mustang II with the vinyl roof.

Also not a Mustang. Thats a Mustang II.

Kinda like how “New Coke” sucked and we went back to Coca Cola classic, they ditched the Mustang Jr. and went back to the real Mustang.

Just like “Mustang Jr,” they didn’t call this car “Mustang.” They called it something different on purpose. This isn’t a trim of a Mustang, it’s something different altogether. It’s not even on the Mustang section of Ford’s website.

I have a 69 Mach 1. When I describe my Mach E to people, I use air quotes when I say “Mustang.”

There's no "sport" in my GTPE?

I have a Mazdarati (ND Miata) and a 987 Porsche Boxster. Both 6-speed 2-seaters, and admittedly a bit more svelte than the Mach-E.

But there's a healthy dose of performance in this EV that earns it a respectful spot in the barn with the the other grin machines.

Also, I'm pretty old. So I grew up driving/riding "sports cars" of the era and the Mach-E would be like science fiction sports car prowess compared.

Purchased mine after dark. I looked around mine real good after the sun came up the next morning.

I couldn't find the word Mustang anywhere on/in it. (did I miss it?)

My dad, at 93 years old and seeing a couple of pictures of it, asked "so son, what made you buy an electric station wagon?"

That's good enough for me.
Station Wagon it is.
Although admittedly it would be more convincing if it had an old-school lowering tailgate rather than a modern rising hatch.
It has ponies on it, but that’s about it. Oh, it also says “Ford” on the windshield. ?‍♂?

If that’s to me, I was referring to all the other GUVs (Grocery Utility Vehicles) out there. Of course the Mustang Mach E is a Sport Utility Vehicle in every sense of the word. But the vast majority imho don’t exactly qualify when it comes to the “sport” part of the acronym.

My bad.
That's what I get for jumping from forum to forum, thread to thread, and eventually creating brain-salad while multi-tasking.

Especially since the “sport” portion had to do with off-road capability. Something we definitely don’t have.

So, you raise a really good point here, but maybe not the one you think you are.

Sure, when you say “Mustang” you think of a hairy muscle car like a Boss or a GT350, but that wasn’t how the nameplate started. That first Mustang was a stylish but fairly tepid coupe with an I-6. “Mustang” has meant a lot of things over the years, from the big brutes of the early ‘70s to the Euro-ish SVO to, yes, the Mustang II.

Let me muddy the waters a little more: the original Mustang was built on a shortened Falcon platform. In the next several years it eventually moved up to the bigger platform of the T-Bird, but Ford execs knew it was drifting from its original mission, and even before the ‘73 OPEC embargo they were preparing to move the Mustang back to a compact platform. Sure, it was the same platform as the Maverick and Pinto, but few seem to know that this platform wasn’t new at all, it was a heavy revamp of the Falcon.

So, in a way, the Mustang II was totally legit: it was a return to the Mustang’s economical roots.
I totally believe that the Mustang II is a legit Mustang. But back in the day there were Mustang owners that didn’t believe that and wanted to exclude them from shows. Thankfully cooler heads at the Mustang Club of America prevailed and welcomed Mustang IIs with open arms, as they have with the Mach-E today.

The Mustang has gone through a lot of changes over the past 60 years. The Mach-E just happens one of the most recent changes.

Actually Ford named it the Mustang Mach E, to drop the Mach E from it's name is not calling it by the name Ford gave it. As I said in my previous post Ford makes a Mustang and Ford makes a Mustang Mach E to avoid confusion.
Still means it is a Mustang. It’s right there in the name.

I've been willing to call my Mach-E an SUV for the past year until I got my federal tax credit. Now I'm now calling it a car. It's a little taller than most cars, but I'd say it's a lot shorter than most SUV's. It's funny that some people have raised their Mach-E's, and others have lowered. To each their own. I suppose you could call it a "Hatchback", but that doesn't really suit it either. My previous car could fold the back seats down and have way more space than the Mach-E with seats folded. Not a lot of storage space. Barely enough for 2 sets of golf clubs with the seats up. I did bring my golf clubs to dealer last winter just to make sure they fit (deal breaker).
From the hatchback - SUV
In the seat - GTD

Several very grown-up men reacted to my Mach-E back in the days when it was still a novelty "Oh, I didn't know they make a Mustang SUV now".

So we have a verdict and the case is closed - it is an SUV.
