"Drive mode unavailable"

In the past month I've seen a recurring problem in my 2021 Mach-E. Every now and then the HUD in front of the steering wheel will say "drive mode unavailable" in a popup I have to clear with the "OK" button. I've never seen this until recently, and I never change drive modes. Not when I'm driving or otherwise. I live the car in Unbridled. I haven't changed my driving habits or location, so nothing is obviously causing this. Anyone seen this?

For one, the mach e doesn't have a HUD (what you are describing is the IPC) and second if you search for "drive mode not available" you'll find huge threads about this issue.

TLDR. It's a software bug and no fix has been released yet.

Yes, it has been happening to me recently. I use Unbridled. I hit the OK button and then a few minutes later go in the menu and select Unbridled again and go on with life. I have no idea why it does this ?‍

I've had this happen while driving and you can feel it change modes which is concerning when you didn't initiate it.

It’s very annoying. I‘ve had it happen a few times in the last year and then a few days ago it happened 3 times in my one hour drive to work. Everyone posts it’s a software bug but its made me lose confidence in the car and I second guess taking the car on long out of town drives my myself

It happened to me for the first time today in my 2022 Mach e GT. I drive in Unbridle mode, and received a pop-up on the central display screen that said Drive Mode Unavailable. When I checked the drive mode screen, no mode was highlighted and I was unable to select any drive mode. I will see what happens next time I start the car.

My 22 did it on the way home today. Has done it 3 or 4 times in the 3100miles I have owned it.

Wife's 21 has never done it, but it has been getting a lot of updates lately so I suspect she will start seeing this soon.

It happens to me infrequently, less than once a week. What IS interesting is the last time it happened to me was the instant I toggled AC off. Pressed AC, bam instant drive mode unavailable. Fixed itself a few seconds later. There's only been one time it did it where it required turning the car off and on to clear it.

Anyone know if there is a solution to this? I just got this and realized it may be related to turning a/c on and off. I don’t normally do that but the weather has been bipolar in NY lately. I will see if there is a link to the A/C toggle but wondering if anyone has had it resolved.

Same with mine. Pretty disappointing that we're still dealing with this issue.

No fix as of today. Ford is aware of it and a fix will be coming out "soon".

Has been happening much more lately. Must be tied to a recent update.
Always drive in Unbridled mode, and when it drops it goes into Engaged mode.
However, it can be switched back to Unbridled while driving.
