Hi, folks, we are now at day 17 with our Mach E Premium AWD and loving it more and more every time we drive it.

However, this is a real stumper for us. I have read other threads where people are saying they can’t open the driver’s door with the fob, etc. and we are having the opposite problem.

On three occasions we have walked out to the car and found the driver’s door ajar. Not just unlocked, but sitting open about 2 inches. My wife and I are certain that we fully closed the door and then used the fob to lock it. We see the mirrors fold in, and hear the horn honk, which on every other car we’ve owned means that everything is locked and the antitheft system is activated.

So, what are we doing that is causing the driver’s door to pop open on its own sometime between when we get out of the car and the next time we approach it?

Is there a function on the key fob that actually opens the driver’s door and doesn’t just unlock it?

thx

No, there is no function on the key, or in the app, that opens the driver's door. If your vehicle was produced in the first half of 2021, there are updates that should have been applied, including to all 4 door modules. If they were applied, or if it's a second half production car, you need to have the dealer fix whatever is causing this.

The month of production is printed on your doorjamb.

RHanks, Rick. This is a pretty new car, with a November 2021 Build Date. I was told by the selling dealer (not who will be servicing it) that the software is up to date, but maybe not?

There is no normal function that should be activating the door actuator by itself. Have your dealer check it out.

Good afternoon. Can you privately message us with your VIN and the name and location of your preferred Ford dealer? I'd like to check into this driver door concern you're experiencing. Thank you!

Maybe a bad door actuator? That actually happened on my Model 3 a few months into ownership. Twice I left the parking lot at work and later came back to the car with the door open.

I know this thread is old, but I think I'm seeing something similar on my '23 GTPE that I've had for about a week now. Assumed I was just doing something wrong, but it's happened 3 times now. Has anyone else seen this on a '23 model?

Hi Randy! I can look into your Mach-E's door concern on my end. To get started, could you please send a private message over with the name/location of your local Ford dealer and your Mach-E's VIN?

I also have a '23 GT, thought that we were imagining it, we've experienced the same thing (coming back to the car, door open).

If you are locking the door with the little lock button on the panel there's a chance you're swiping it just right to get it to lock, then open as you walk away. The noise of the mirrors folding helps to cover that up. More than once I've gotten the opposite of what I wanted from the door panel. I hit lock, door opens, hit open, door locks. There's too little of a gap on that button.

The issue hasn't recurred since our first couple weeks of ownership, so I'm chalking it up to user error.

This is a very common misconception in the automotive world, and many historians have spent countless hours trying to determine when it started. Regardless, your door is NOT a jar. It's also not a bottle or a jug. While it might be possible to store items in your door, it is still just a door.

I can see how that can happen but we don't use that little "lock" button. Both drivers have experienced the issue, we don't have mirror fold configured.

Schedule it with the dealer, the panel it's self might be the issue. Alignment of the door lock button, or possible pinched cable.
Open and close the door a few times without walking away, even other doors. If it's the button/panel it might be getting triggered by another doors vibration to the body.

Well Ford is apparently hiring folks from Tesla, Rivian and Apple. Perhaps they also hired from Boeing too?
