Dumping BlueCruise

My BC subscription ends tomorrow. I am not about to spend $600 when Ford can't manage to send me any BC updates. With the help of a Ford tech online we found that the updates for my 2021 Premium, AWD, Ext. range Mach-E are scheduled as "SOON". Much like the timeline for my free NACS adapter.

Your BlueCruise service is coming to an end for Sparky and will expire on 3/13/2025 if you choose not to renew.

You and your 2021 Ford vehicle with its Ford BlueCruise Prep Package have been with BlueCruise since the beginning. As one of our early adopters, we're offering you a special one-time discounted rate on a BlueCruise Connected Service plan - three (3) more years of service for just $600.* If you don't want to take advantage of this 3-year offer, BlueCruise Connected Service plans are also available at the regular monthly or annual rate through the FordPass App or your Ford Account.
I have a 23 GT with 3 complimentary years. When it expires I doubt I’ll renew

I’ve written about this before and never received any decent responses but I’ll try again.

My window sticker says Bluecruise is part of the $1900 Co-pilot option. Nowhere does it say anything about a trial or additional monthly charges.

Why does Ford think I should pay an additional charge for something I already paid for?

I did get the offer to “renew” for a year for $0. I sent them a message asking what I was renewing since I had never “newed” but no response

I doubt any of us would have a decent response for you.

I can imagine it was noted as a trial period in the fine print of the advertising. I can also imagine that the dealers had no clue what they were selling, as they often neglect to know their product. I can imagine further that as it was a new system, and in a new platform, the neglect was intensified.

I don't doubt they neglected to mention the trial period to you, and can easily see why you would think it was just part of the car.

Even now, nearly five years in, many dealers are clueless about these cars. I recently bought a used MME at a dealer that moves a lot of them and the salesman was telling me wrong stuff about it, he didn't know what he was selling.

I am one who is willing to pay for ongoing support and updates, I really like it, but not at the current pricing. If they continue expanding where the system will work, and continue updating the functionality, it's worth the ongoing investment to me.

If the 'hands on' system continues to function fully as it does now once the 'hands free' subscription ends I will likely just continue with the free version, unless the pricing becomes more attractive.

I'd recommend you take them up on the $0/year offer, and then if you have the energy you can keep pushing for more. Ford has issues with over promising when it comes to Bluecruise, they keep missing their own deadlines, which is one reason some think the $0/year offer cropped up. I doubt we'll see any further free extensions, but maybe if they keep missing the mark they will have more incentives later.

When I bought my 2022 MachE, it came with 3 years of BC and the fine print mentioned you could renew for $200 per year after that.

I swapped to a 2023 model and it came with only 90-day trial and then charged me $800 to renew for 1 year which I did pay.

Now I am seeing the renewal cost is $500 per year?

Seems like Ford has no idea what to charge. You think they would want to maximize the number of subscribers now to get more data to improve it. But nope.

$200 per year I am definitely in.
$300 probably still in.
$400-600 is a hard maybe.
$600+ I'm out from now on.

My current sub is up in a few months and I turned off auto renew. I'm not sure I will re-sub or not. It's great but basically only covers interstates around me which I use, but not a ton.
You forgot a big $$ difference in the math above.

In 2021-2022 we paid $1900 for the 360 cameras and BC prep package plus the $600 for BC.

In 2023+ the 360 cameras and BC prep were FREE.

2021 job 2 (like myself) get extra hosed.

The job 1 people can renew for $200/yr after getting it for free for a while, but job 2 is $800/yr even after paying the $1900+$600.

Yup, they don’t know what to charge. That’s for sure. And I’m still on BC 1.0. ?‍♂

I posted a thread about this a long time ago. Never got a good answer.

Navigation stated “3 years,” but not Bluecruise.

you can’t understand how much less fatiguing it is until you experience it first hand. Your awareness on the back half of a long trip is much much higher.
Except I got to try it for free for 90 days.... ? (Is Columbus to Chicago long enough?)

My opinion on this stuff. Until it is truly hands free, I.E. the car isn't yelling at you to watch the road every 3 seconds. They should be paying us to use it. In its current state it is more annoying then helpful.

the "free" hands-on assisted lane keeping works great. As a driver I get less bored by having a hand on the wheel but don't have to make all the micro-adjustments to center the vehicle in my lane. If only i could disable the eye tracking for that mode...

As a fully functioning human being i am very capable of looking at the main display to figure out what playlist or podcast i want to listen to next all while using my peripheral vision to keep track of the road ahead. The eye tracking stuff is way to aggressive.

I guess it would depend on what version of BlueCruise you had and how well mapped it was. BC 1.0 dropping out every 3 minutes doesn’t provide any relief. Unless you are going 30+ minutes at a time without having to intervene, you don’t get any relief. In fact it’s more fatiguing constantly worry when you will have to unexpectedly take over.

It does, and in my opinion it is superior.

Until @Ford Motor Company fixes Bluecruise so that it doesn't disengage every time I approach an overhead toll pass reader, which are placed roughly every mile on the various toll roads in Northern Virginia, I won't consider renewing. I've left voice feedback in the car, told the Ford "EV Concierge," even a message @Jimfarley on threads, but the issue persists.

I didn’t have BCHF on my 2021 GT-PE. I was very happy when my 2024 GT’s complimentary subscription ended. ?‍♂?
Why? Didn’t you know how not to use it while you had it for free? ?

I think basically every study on distracted driving, ever, would disagree with you. It’s not about peripheral vision, but limited “processing power.”

Of all the tech Ford provides, the eye sensor is somehow… the most reliable? The false positive and false negative rates have to be well under 1%.

Now compare that to the rate that BC disengages, or speed sign detection picks up the wrong speed, or Bluetooth CarPlay craps the bed, or PAAK doesn’t wake up the car on approach, or the “rain sensing wipers” trigger out of the blue. The eye sensor is surprisingly rock solid by comparison?

No, it’s that if I ever wanted to use anything other than dumb cruise or semi-adaptive cruise it would engage BCHF on freeways. Bonus that I get the banner telling me to add BCHF in the FordPass app now. ??

Superior because you don’t like the eye nanny?

The ACC and LC functionality is exactly the same whether using BC Hands Free or Hands On.

I would agree that Hands On is a superior price, but that’s about it.

Oh i agree 100%, part of my point is there is a time and a place to be partially distracted. In other words, driving on an open highway with these aids enabled, not another car around, no crossing intersection, no tree-line where animals could run out... These situations are pretty common. I can afford to be slightly distracted.

I despise being treated like a child in my own vehicle. Either give me the tech to work with or don't. I'm an adult, I can decided when and how I'll use it.
