It’s interesting that Vermont allows per kWh charging, but the EA site still just shows per minute pricing. What’s even more interesting is that there aren’t any EA charging stations in Vermont.

Charging will get faster and faster. So while costs to build charging stations is a great expense, the companies doing so know this is an investment on a long term strategy for profit. In the next three years, EV adoption is going to explode. As EVs are pushing 500 mile ranges, the reasons many stick with ICE vehicles dwindles. Ford is building their electric F150 plant now. The future is EV, so anyone investing now will be getting their profits and I don't expect it's actually going to take them that long to recoup.

one thing to remember when looking at business model here - EA was initially funded through "you caught us cheating" money. It was basically a fine, just going to the charging network instead of a government somewhere... so that kind of screws up evaluation of the model. There's an acceptable ramp up hardware charge that won't be true forever but means that "break even" doesn't necessarily mean the same here.

All this just reiterates that the phone apps better have good charging status monitoring and alarms. It's needs to (strongly) remind people to get back to their car within X minutes as their car starts getting near full, to free up that charger for the next guy.
EXACTLY. There will still be some jerks, but this would help immensely.

I agree. They only need to be on normally traveled road trip routes - primarily all interstates, and in densely populated areas where residents may not be able to access level 2 overnight. There also need to be some at out of the way “destinations” like National Parks, or other rural destinations.

I don't want a DCFC within 200 km of my house. So not on every road but maybe at every interstate rest-stop.

I love that Jeep is involved with getting chargers at trailheads. I will use those more than DCFC. Show me a free trailhead L2 charger, and I'll show you a trail I'll be running every weekend.

Well, Vermont has Interstates, so I would like to see some EA stations on them. The current sprinkling of slow EVgo stations is lackluster at best.

I'd prefer them at restaurants and stores rather than rest stops. There's often no services (other than bathrooms) at rest stops to kill half an hour.

Yes, which is why many are actually at Walmarts and Targets right off of interstates. Those often have at least fast food within a short walk of the chargers. Well, at least where I've looked along the eastern seaboard.
