The answer is grants and loans to electric companies to build charging stations. A condition of the loan/grant would be a cap on the allowed charges based off local residential rates.
Yeah it feels like making appropriate accommodations and improvements to do away with surge pricing for chargers is the key thing. I understand that the surge pricing has a purpose, which is why I mention improvements needed. They need to talk to one another and figure it out.

At some point EVs will be going through stations at enough regularity it won't be a surge, it will just be almost constant draw.

There will always be surges at certain times of day. For instance people going on long trips often set out early morning, which will cause significant surges late morning and early afternoon. Same goes for trucks once the distribution industry starts switching to EV.

The answer is large solar farms with charging rest stops built alongside the highways. Using the solar capacity for daytime surges would reduce the need to storage systems. Solar panels produce DC power so there maybe a costs saving with equipment to converts to AC.

Is anyone aware of credit cards that offer increased Cashback (or points/miles/whatever) for EV charging?
It is easy to find credit cards that give 2% or 3% back on gas, I haven't found any however that gives a higher return on EV charges.

I know US Bank is planning on launching a card that does that but looking for something available now.
Thank you!
I use the Ford Pass VISA by FNBO.

I have it linked to my: EA, ChargePoint, and EV Go AutoCharge+ apps

3% back for EV recharges for Pass Points,
5% back on Ford purchases,
11,000 points for opening account
$300 statement credits.

I’ve done a couple road trips through Nevada. EA was 43¢ kWh (31¢ with $4 monthly pass).

Shell was 50¢ to 60¢ kWh plus a $2 to $5 connection fee - which wasn’t a problem since most of them were not working. Nice carport covering though if you have to wait for a tow truck.
It seems Shell has other companies join their network. The one's I've seen here are built/maintained by MidAmerican Energy (probably why they are cheaper?), they just have a tiny Shell Greenlots logo on the top corner with the QR code to scan/start the charge.

Between the Kum and Go's and a little town called Cumming (https://cumming.iowa.gov/index.html), I swear these names were decided during a stand up routine.
https://www.cumingcountyfair.com/

Now that you say this, it does sound suspicious? :)

Btw, I saw 38 Special at this exact fair this past Summer. Only $15 to get into the fair and see the amazing concert. They really were great and the weather was absolutely gorgeous.

Back in 1982 I saw 38 Special with Eddie Money and it cost $20 for the ticket. I was amazed that the cost went down $5.00 !!

Now back to your regular scheduled programming................. ?

Oh interesting, last I had checked, the Ford card didn’t cover EV charges - is this new/recent?

Thank you!

What is the ratio of rewards points to gift cards, and does this vary by the type of card (e.g., store card vs VISA gift card)?
I Just looked it is 5880 points for $50 card for visa and most stores. some stores are less. So it would take $1176.00 in EV charging to get 5880 points, so that is about 4.25% back if my math is correct.
