We just got our Mach E last week and have a Clipper Creek HCS-60 Level 2 EVSE. When we plug the vehicle in before 10PM when it's set to charge, the relay on the Clipper Creek cycles every 30 seconds to a minute and shows charging for a short period of time, then goes back off. As far as I can tell this would go on until the time set to start charging. I called Clipper Creek and they said if it's doing this the car is requesting a charge, almost like pinging the EVSE to see if it's still there. The HCS-60 is rated at 48amps so it's a pretty loud pop whenever it turns on and off and sounds like it would wear out very fast like this.

Is anyone else experiencing this with their level 2 chargers and the delayed scheduling?

The car may be pulling power from the evse to keep the battery cool while its parked. The car does little maintenance things in the background, and will use wall power to do it if available.

I'm not sure what intervals it does it. Probably just depends on conditions.

My EVSE will click on and off when I get near the car with the fob. But I also haven't just hung out in the garage to listen how often it does it.

It's actually closer to every 10 seconds. I did go into the car start accessory power to confirm it was showing that it was going to start charging at 10pm. After I did that the EVSE stayed lit with charging and did not cycle anymore. The charging circle eventually went dark confirming it wasn't actually charging. Seems like possibly a bug in the car software where it is stuck in a loop of trying to charge then realizing it's not time yet.

My MME and Grizzl-E classic EVSE do not exhibit that behavior.

My EVSE doesn't have an audible relay "click" but its status LED indicates charging vs not. I just went to my garage where the MME is fully charged (to 90%) and the EVSE showed steady green which means "Charging complete or no current consumed by the car". I couldn't get the proximity welcome to come on (PAAK sucks) but it did let me unlock the door and upon doing so the EVSE switched to a flashing green LED ("Charging in progress") for a few minutes and then went back to its prior, solid green state.

Just wanted to provide an update to anyone else who may see this in the future. The problem hasn't happened lately, I think it must have been related to the Ford Pass outage that week. I'm guessing the car does a ping to the Ford servers to assess preferred charging times and was unable to connect so it continued to retry. The charge times were set in the vehicle, but it must also check the Ford servers for updates which is what was causing the relay to cycle.

I had this same issue with delayed charging with a Clipper Creek unit where it would "click" on and off. It seems to be software related as I was able to cure it by forcing the charge to start from the app and then resuming the schedule. Happened again a couple weeks back. Good thing we are in and out of the garage often after the car is parked and waiting to charge.
