EZ-Pass transponder interference?

Somehow they should link a plate to an account like the transponder.

They do that in PA. If they can’t get a read on your transponder, they Bill your plate if they can photograph it. A buddy of mine used to do exactly that when he rented cars to go to MD.

In NY, for "green" cars like the Honda Clarity I currently drive, you get a green EZ-Pass tag for special rates. I am assuming the Mach-E will also get the green rates.

I have emailed New York's EZ-Pass for clarification on what happens when a windshield blocks a Tag. There was no mention of it in the FAQs.

Any Florida owners should also find out how this might effect their SunPass tags.

potentially that would work for the majority of use cases. there would be edge cases where it would be problematic (e.g. I can rent a car and use my own transponder right now, avoiding rental company "convenience fees", which are stupidly high).

since the plate info is a little more controlled on the DMV/BMV side, they'd have to be involved in every transaction potentially or do a live feed of plate changes or something... there's probably acceptable losses there though for some of those very edge cases.

HA! Ohio will probably charge EV's MORE to go through the tolls if someone gives them the idea!

Illinois doesn’t have stickers rather they are small transpnder units attached to windshield with plastic adhesive velcro like strips so unit can detach and be used in more than one car. Will the transponder units transmit through glass ?

Have not tried our I-Pass (Illinois toll pass) on the Mach-E. However, the normal transponder will not work on my wife's RAV-4 because of the windshield so we had to get the license plate mount version. It actually is nice to have it not on the windshield.

I see only a few comments about I-pass but I assume it works (or does not work) the same.

Although for I-pass at least, I don't think there is any penalty if they cannot read the transponder as long as the vehicle is linked via license plate.

Luckily in Michigan they do not have toll roads (just bad roads, high insurance and high registration fees) so this really only is an issue if I have to drive to or past Chicago.

FL tesla owners say try to mount transponder on black part behind the mirror and register your transponder with your vehicle tag. Not sure if same effect in MME. If transponder does not work (most of the time it does), then your tag will be used as toll-by-plate. It is the same price as if your transponder was scanned.

They also say there's a dark part of the glass to the right of the rearview mirror that lets it through.

i noticed that the dark material to reduce glare on the windshield isn't textured on the inside so I'll suction cup my transponder to that spot next, then it's sticking my arm out the window as a last resort

In 4 results! Hope some small section of the windshield ends up working. Many of us in VA use the Flex transponders to be able to turn on HOV mode. I wonder if TransUrban has addressed this since that private company has taken over operation of all our Express lanes from the DC metro down to VA Beach. ? Will check their site later.

??? I looked like a HUGE idiot in a new Mach-e, stopped in the ex-pass only lane, honking my horn for assistance while trying to wave cars behind me to not come in this lane. lol.

Thank you for that update. Now I just have to figure out how to get one. Because of Covid Illinois has closed all the customer service points on the Toll Roads and I don't think Jewel carries the LPT transponders.

I called the I-Pass folks, explained the issue, and they mailed us one.

OK, I'll try that when the time comes. They warn on their web site that due to Covid their phone lines are flooded now but since I don't even have my car yet it isn't an issue.
