That is so much better than the one we get here... I don't understand why they make two different ones anyways!
Hey Brayden, this is the way I look at it.... In China, Cadillac, Lincoln (in a big way), Buick, and other higher line vehicles are very big there. Ford doesn't have a high level EV like Cadillac nor a Lincoln version so they spiced up the Mach-E in the interior/exterior. They have a beautiful dash lined in padded vinyl with contrast stitching compared to our all plastic dash top, more premium seat designs with different materials, colors and contrast stitching, plus all models get the GT front bumper, and a lot more.

Looking between the two consoles, the one for China is definitely more expensive to manufacture. Gloss black compartment covers, satin silver handles and trim, all padded vinyl trim and sides with contrast stitching except the lower base. I'd really like to get that padded vinyl top for the dash if it was a separate piece but unfortunately it is part of the dash.

With my satin forged carbon fiber dash and door trim, leather/Alcantara suede steering wheel, leather/contrast stitching center air bag cover, EL door, dash and floor accent/ambient lighting, custom lighted "MACH-E" emblem in the doorsill/kick plate and now the more premium console, the interior has a much more luxurious feel..

I must be blind, but I am not able to see any big differences between the old and new parts, other than the shiny black surfaces and some slightly different/padded shapes.

Where would I look to see the big difference, the flow-through aspect of the new console?

The most obvious thing is that the front part of the console is higher. At the front, it extends up to the center screen rather than being well below the screen. There are a lot of other differences. When I first saw photos of a Chinese MME's interior I asked myself why our console looks so crappy compared to theirs. 🤔🐩

OK, thanks Pudel, I see that now. Also, the shifter area is more integrated together with the cupholders and phone trays than the original equipment. I bet that's the flow through part.

I agree, it does look much nicer.

Hey Phil, I probably should have posted a photo of our US console before removing it to get a good comparison between the two. Below is an old photo I took of my '21 and it was not quite at the same angle I took the new one at but you can get an idea.

About the "Flow-Through" term, that usually applies to a console that starts at the dash (usually connected to it) then extends to the rear just behind the front seats. Below are the last few vehicles I've had with this type of console design. Not the greatest photos for showing off the console but the only ones I have.

Thanks Mark. Yes, this makes it very clear. I was blind not to see the difference. Looks great!

This is the way.

Once again Mark does not disappoint.
Something you could try is a matte clear coat on the black. But usually that makes it worse to clean.

“Simple Solution” Ford. Offer a Premium version which has an optional luxury package. The Premium LX if you will. Padded vinyl, flow through center console, upgraded seat, etc etc.

Make it so Ford!

Mark, it doesn't look like there is room to surface charge a phone with the Chinese version. Is it just an optical distortion?

I was thinking about how to change it before I even installed it but once installed, it is kind of classy as Code 3 said and I am NOT a big fan of gloss black trim. The first thing I did when getting my '24 was to replace the gloss black trim on the steering wheel and console tray trim with satin forged carbon fiber. I mentioned before I had seen this console in China with the flat black type cover we have for our storage bin and now I know why. The lower trim levels have those covers while the upper trim level interiors have the gloss black covers. I've been keeping the covers closed and so far everyone that has been inside the car noticed right away something was different. It kind of goes with the large glossy display above it and I always have the display set to dark mode. 😊

Bill, this is what I don't understand. Every one of Ford's SUV's (Escape, Edge, Explorer and Expedition) all have a Lincoln counterpart. Different front facia, rear end and upscale interior. They charge anywhere from $10K and up more and people still buy it. How difficult would it be to spruce up the Mach-E a bit? They can leave the exterior basically alone but maybe add a power frunk hood like the Lightning, bi-directional charging, much nicer interior, stereo, etc. I would gladly pay more for all of this and I personally know a few other members that would too.

When I went to the EV car show/expo last month in Alameda and saw the interiors of some of the other offerings, especially Cadillac, I was more upset we don't have a high level, premium version. The little things I've done to my car's interior does make it feel more premium to me but I would like more. 😊
