I'm wondering if it was one of these really early demo units. Most were driven around to events to promote the MME before the customer units started coming off the line. Some went to dealers for demo rides. Others were in the hands of regional reps. This one may have gone on static display somewhere. Many of those were Infinite Blue.

Here's the one I had a chance to spend an hour with at Koons Ford Silver Spring in October 2020:

BTW, IIRC Job 1 production began the week of Sept. 28th, 2020.

That’s because it is. If you look closely you’ll see everything that I found.
Are you referring to the "company car" designation. If that is true, it's interesting and would help explain the lack of use over such a long period of time.

You’ve likely got a mannequin car. These are built for display on the dealer showroom floor and cannot be sold until Ford releases them.
They are legally classified ā€œnewā€ in the sense they’ve never been sold, but for them to work correctly for demos they would have to activate the modem, which is what triggers the start of the ā€œin serviceā€ period. Ford *should* honor the 3yr warranty, but that depends on your state’s laws on the subject.
Yes, and as for the low low mileage (10 miles), it was built in the middle of the pandemic lockdown. I was furloughed from the Nissan dealership in March 2020. It may have been sitting for quite some time prior to purchase. Remember how backed up shipping docks were and subsequent deliveries of just about all items?

And .. perhaps nobody was really interested in an EV at that time. The BEV sector of cars was just beginning. People were very cautious about the technology. Lately there has been more advertising and more EVs on the road.

I said I'd post the door tag when I got it back from the shop, so here it is, and with a 07/20 date.

Also to @Red Hawk, I doubt it sat because it was unwanted. End of 2020 and all of 2021 you had a very hard time finding a Mach E on the lot for sale. They were not having issues moving them, or at least it sure didn't feel like it.

Yeah, as we suspected, July 2020 build date, like the other road show cars. 3 months before normal customer production started.

Someone more familiar with what happens (or should I say, is supposed to happen) with pre-production cars like that will need to chime in if you want more insight. The generic stuff I read on the subject says pre-production vehicles are not supposed to be sold to the public, and are supposed to be destroyed. But I don't know if that's entirely true, or has exceptions that might apply here. But I would at least suspect this one making it's way to public sale may be a mistake.

OTOH, if you got a great deal on it, it may not be such a bad thing. Pros and cons. You lose things like warranty, and perhaps some OTA capability (still unclear about that one??), but because it apparently sat in some back lot for 28 months, you've gotten a near-new vehicle.

My VIN, digit 10 is M and 12-17 is A00189. Lines up with an early model First Edition. I'm guessing, as others have suggested, it was some dealer or Ford demo vehicle/show/"mannequin" and the services and warranty started even though there was no title or "owner". I'm wondering if Ford would be willing to retro the warranty to the First owner in 2022?? One can dream.

Any other early first editions stuck on update 4.2.5 and have a suggestion on how to get past it. 3 dealerships can't figure it out.
My understanding is that this depends on the state. In some states a dealer can use a demo car (mannequin) and it does not get titled. The requirement to title happens the first time it is sold to a consumer. But in other states … it has to be titled to use it as a demo car.

My guess is it was in a state that required that it be titled and that triggered the start of warranty.

You may want to re-title the thread. The First Edition was a special early production trim built early in 2021 Job1. They were all Grabber Blue Metallic. ??
There were three possible colors … Grabber Blue, Rapid Red, and there was a gray … I don’t recall the name.

On a First Edition (I own one), the wheel trim matches the paint color. The side-view mirror upper-half also matches the paint. The brake calipers are always painted red (regardless of car color).

The front door scuff plates will say ā€œFirst Editionā€. The accel & brake pedals are metal. The threads used to stitch seats, steering wheel cover, etc. are colored either blue or red (Premium and Select didn’t get that option).

All of the features are cosmetic. There is no mechanical difference between a First Edition vs. a Premium Trim with all options added. The package just offers a unique look.

(My profile photo is my First Edition in Rapid Red)

You are correct, I was mistaken calling it a First Edition and I'll see if I can update the title.
