Hopefully you did not finance through Options. Rental use is forbidden.

Per usual, lot's of conjecture not much substance. Speaking from experience, I'll add my2 cents.

Turo do insure the vehicles, level of insurance is up to you. The lowest deductible pays out the least from each rental period. I went for highest insurance/lowest pay because the top tier insurance was the only one that covered against "wear & tear" which I felt could be too easily manipulated (e.g. "that seat stain/mark etc is just wear & tear, we're not paying out"
When I used that top tier, it made less sense for me so I slowly just hiked my prices and eventually stopped.

Would recommend setting it so you have to approve, otherwise you get dinged for 'cancelling' aka refusing a rental.

No damage on any of my rentals but a couple of times they left it basically on empty. No need for towing but Turo's payout in this situation WILL NOT cover that expense.

One time I found a company looking for a week long rental of Mach-E. They were testing their charging software so car basically sat in secure parking lot whole time accruing no miles. Also used normal chargers and after a few questions I was confident software testing was on their side, not my car. After the first day long rental, I switched to lowest insurance level for their week long booking and earned enough to cover a years worth of insurance for that one week. YMMV

Oh, and if you have insurance that rates your driving (I don't) I wouldn't use, otherwise your premium is going to go up based on them flooring it.

I just have visions of two humans of whatever sex …Binary or non-binary attempting to join the electric car mile high club on my gorgeous seats. There would not be enough disinfectants or air fresheners in the world to remove the vision and smell from my mind even if it was gone …. You’re allowed to use a dash cam and I think that would only make it a whole lot scarier.

10 years ago I would have trusted the general public after I did decent due diligence and what they would be doing… nowadays not a chance. Too many people who just don’t care and too many able con men out there… For all you know it could be a MachE owner who is looking for some parts. You wouldn’t know until it was too late to get the money back

Unless you absolutely have to do it to make your payment I’d reconsider. But I do place my cars on a very high pedestal and it may be unimportant to you

jes sayin

I listed my car in Turo, and someone booked my MME GT for this weekend. Should I be worried? Any tips? Thoughts about the app?

years worth of insurance? does not add up. Lets say you got 300 per day x 7 days. Minus taxes and fees. You got maybe 1500 for that week-long rental. That is one year worth of insurance at most year and a half and not multiple years like you are implying.

Way to misquote me. "a years worth of insurance"

I looked on Turo here after seeing this thread. A guy rents his for $197 a day. That's absurdly low for the risk.

Nothing to add except I look forward to seeing your car in a rap video, Cops episode, or on pornhub.

Doesn’t matter. If insurance doesn’t have a “for hire” rider, insurance will refuse to pay a claim.
Yep. You’ll definitely be involved if he kills somebody robs a bank or just decides to go to a political rally and the car is set afire.

there’s not a chance I would let my car out to anyone else in the future the world is different now that’s why there’s Hertz and Avis ….let them take the risk. I bet you they don’t routinely ask their stockholders if they should be scared to let the cars out to others and there’s a reason why ….they’re indemnified for it …..you’re not
PS it’s not the same as having them buy an insurance policy to cover their own ass
They could care less about you

Nice, you'll pay for a significant portion of your monthly financing with a weekend rental.
Unless………
Jes sayin …. Google Turo complaints and rental issues. It’s a very entertaining thread and it’s all true. It’s a crap shoot most here Apparently don’t need to and are unwilling to take for obvious reasons!
What’s hilarious is the pricing now. If you look at premium rental places on the market they aren’t offering a MachE for less than 499 a day. 100 miles. Since they are so rare. Like a Tesla S.
If he can get 500 bucks a day I’d consider it
He won’t. The MachE Doesn’t list price high enough to get those prices. Ferraris get those numbers
And anything he does get he’s gonna lose 20%
Caveat Jes sayin Emptor

We are both a Turo Host (not for our Mach-E though LOL) and we use Turo all the time (I personally rent a Mach-E from a host in Sacramento frequently). I can tell you that Turo is a bit of a mixed bag, but can be very effective. Here are our recommendations:
  • First and foremost, you need to separate yourself from the car. This will save you headaches in the long run. Turo does provide coverage, I would recommend starting off with the $0 deductible until you are more comfortable. From there just remind yourself a car is nothing but a bunch of parts, and parts can be replaced.
  • Next, I would not go with the Turo Recommended Pricing (Auto Pricing). Start by pricing yourself a little high (this weeds out discount renters).
  • Also don't accept all renters, I would disable instant book for the GT and vet your Renters. Look if they have been rated, see what their hosts have commented on, and message the guest. Have a little bit of a conversation about what they are doing and why to get a feeling of how they will take care of your card.
  • To weed out joy riders make sure you have a few days minimum (i.e. 3 days). People are less likely to rent a car just for a Joy ride if they can't rent it for only a day. And most trips, or other legitimate rental needs for anything that is not a Pickup or a Van requires more than 1 or 2 days. (Plus you can make an exception if someone messages you).
  • Finally be prepared to be an EV Educator and advocate, 95% of the time this will be the first time the guest has driven an EV so they are sure to have LOTS of questions, how to charge, where to charge, etc. We would recommend building up some Canned Messages that you store somewhere to provide this type of information.
The best is to be over-communicative on your expectations, as well as your process and procedures for pickup, drop off, approval, inspection etc. I hope this helps, and if you have questions you can message me (over a year as a host now).
