I recently bought my Mach-E, just for the screen to die a few days later. The car has been in the shop for over a month now and they can’t figure out what the issue is. I was advised to start a claim to Ford for their Buy Back program.
Has anyone been through this process? I had a few questions about it:
1. How do I officially start it? I couldn’t find anything on the Ford website.
2. how long should this whole thing take?
3. I’d like to get another Mach E instead. Will I be able to keep my current loan terms? Or will they make me get a new loan with new terms?
4. Has anyone had any luck with skipping the process and just going back to the dealership and demanding a new vehicle instead of the defected one they sold them?

Would appreciate any advice!
thank you!

Unfortunately you need to contact an attorney and keep track of the maintenance issue, days in service, etc… It’s not as simple as you are implying, there is a Youtuber named Steve Lehto out of Michigan that handles Lemon Law buybacks, he would be the person I contact and help identify an attorney in your state. The dealership won’t work with you, it will fall on corporate, and they won’t want to work with you, so you need an attorney to naviagate the politics.

First of all, @Kingbudd is unfortunately incorrect in the majority of what he said. The only thing that's correct is the dealership not working with you, the rest is just wrong.

1 - call Ford at (800) 392-3673 and tell them you wish to initiate a buy back and why. They will initiate the process with little effort or push back.
2 - most buy backs that's I've seen take about 4 months.
3 - this is something you'd have to ask the buy back case worker. I wouldn't count on keeping any terms or loan conditions.
4 - I've never heard anyone just swapping the car. The dealership isn't the one who built or assembled the car, they won't just take a hit for Ford.

Many members here have gone through easy buy backs with Ford. Many have also gone the legal route with attorneys.

As for records, it's all recorded, so even if you didn't keep anything the dealership isn't going to shred all evidence of you being there. Likewise, every time they hook up the car it's saved on Ford servers. Every DTC that the car throws is updated OTA to Ford. We aren't in the old days of saving carbon copies of service orders.

I recently completed a buyback of my F150 Lightning. The process was actually pretty smooth, and took maybe 2-3 weeks for approval. Ford was pretty fast for this process, because it is in their interest to do this as an internal "customer satisfaction" buyback instead of as a full blown lemon law claim. By doing it this way, Ford is not obligated to label the car as a lemon buyback on carfax.

Anyways, Ford has an entire RAV (re-acquired vehicle) program that deals with this. I wont publicly post my case handlers info, but if you send me a private message I will give you her email and you can reach out to her to start a claim.

Edit: And Ford paid me back every penny, including sales tax and dealer fees. I cant speak to any financing terms as I had paid cash for mine, but my gut is that you would be subject to whatever the current market rates are at the time you got a new vehicle

Sounds like a crappy dealer copping out.

3) New loan.
4) You have no grounds to do that, that's not a thing.

Just finished (well waiting on loan to be paid off but I got my check) on a Lightning Buyback also. Pretty smooth experience except for the paperwork which took me a while to collect (fast on their end -- more of an issue on mine collecting things like every interest payment made which they refunded). Certainly, would recommend giving the RAV process a chance before inviting a lawyer into the equation.

The dealer isn't going.to offer up anything. This process is out of their hands except for handling the closing (return) of the car. While Ford won't hold anything like interest rates you will likely end up with an additional offer from Ford that can cover part of any interest increase.

What was the issue you had with your F150 and how many miles did it have on it? I would like the contact for the person at Ford that assisted you.

first issue was 2 bad battery cells, and they arc'd the bus bar when re-installing the new ones and burnt those as well. Took another month and a half for replacements to arrive. Got a buyback approval, but opted for a "cash and keep" deal instead, since the truck was fixed and working fine. Truck had about 1800 miles if I remember correctly.

The 2nd issue was the turn signals would stay on "fast blink", like when a bulb is burnt out on an older car. But obviously with everything LED there are no old school bulbs. But if you turned the truck off and on then it would stop doing it for awhile. They said it needed some sort of turn signal module or something, but it wasnt available, and they had no idea when it would be available. At that moment I still had a few weeks left on my original buyback offer from the battery issue, which was good for 6 months, so I just went ahead and executed it.

I have given that contact to a few other people and they replied saying that person is no longer at Ford. I dont have an additional contact, sorry.

In the middle of Ford buyback with CALIFORNIA car. Called Bev team and inquired on buyback for HVJB issues 4th time in and 36 days in shop. Week later received call RAV team member , approved Ford buy back. 1. They offer me $10,000 to keep the car. 2. Replace the car with same car 2021 4X EB. While paying $9,000 for usage fees, ( My first warranty complaint on HVJB was at 20,000 miles . A formula based on 120,000 miles of life and price of car less any rebates done at dealer level. My charge ended up being $.43 cents a mile. Keeping same payment plan and buy out. 3. SOC. Substitution of collateral. Replacing car with any Ford product and paying the difference in price and usage fees. Keeping same payments and payout. Transfer of Ford extended warranty.
I opted for SOC and order 2024 Eruption Green w/ Bronze package and power upgrade.
With build date of 4-29-24.
Usage fee. $9000.00, $5000.00 difference in price of car, keeping same payments and payoff at end. 3 year newer car and GT for $14,000 is a great deal for me!!

I am working with Ford on a buyback program on my 22 MME GTPE that had the HVBJB failure, which was fixed, but now the power steering module is out, and there is no ETA on the arrival of that part or even the build of it. My question is this: I LOVE my MME - I don't want anything different, but how likely is this to happen again if I ask about getting a '24? I also read in a few places that the GTPE is no longer available due to issues. I am looking for insight from those who also love their MME and have been through this process.

How’s it going? How many days total has your mme been in the shop. Worried I may have to do the same thing soon.

GTPE is now just the GT with a software performance limit upgrade. My 2023 has really been solid. I am expecting the 24 to age better, just due to the further efficiency in the cooling system. My opinion continues to be that Ford owes 21’-22’ owners quite a bit of goodwill credit.
