Good day all
Has anyone tried to put a switch on the inside to release the latch.
if it can be opened via the computer there should be a wire you can put a switch in
I always turn off the car before I allow the computer to open it
Another thought
Use the remote somehow??

There is a lever on driver side by your left foot. Pull it twice.

FordPass has a button for it. Vehicle -> Controls, then look for the symbol for frunk.

Just my guess, but I would expect the control for the latch is on CAN bus. Not a simple wire you can hack.

Phil is correct. You can’t safely hardwire a physical switch for the Frunk like you can and I did for the liftgate back in ‘21 otherwise I would have done that too.

Interesting. I found your thread on that project. I would not have guessed it was that simple. Ford really needs to add that button.

It is on the SYNC screen, but yes, a physical button would be more convenient. Designing a physical switch for the frunk release is feasible, but as Mark notes, it wouldn't be a simple momentary switch like many of us have for the liftgate. The issue is that Ford (rightly) went through considerable design to make sure the likelihood of the hood opening during normal driving is very low. There's a double latch that would need to be activated. Someday I might try to make something for it, but it would be DIY even beyond my trunk lighting project.

AND you can open the frunk from the touch pad on the drivers door. So there are 4 ways to open the frunk.

The OP's inquiry is from "inside release". The Door Sill touchpad is only accessible from the outside, but certainly counts as another way to do it. Now if I could just find more ways to use the frunk besides stowing muddy hiking boots after an outing. ?

It's been over three years since I last saw my frunk.
You don't chill in yours? You're missing a party! ??

There is a heavy clunking noise (2times) almost like a motor is actually pulling the inside lever when you energize the computer to do it for you
That makes me think …… 1 wire on a momentary switch. ????? This noise is inside under dash. Not outside

There is also the button inside the frunk itself... So, in theory maybe. However, I wonder about how this would be done safely.

It cannot be done safely. That is why I said you cannot have a physical frunk switch. Pushing the button in the frunk opens the hood NO MATTER IF THE CAR IS LOCKED, UNLOCKED OR MOVING. I have tried it. Unless Ford changed something since '21, you cannot extend that switch to the inside. Not safe.

Maybe one of the engineers in this forum can design a solenoid setup that can be placed under the frunk pull handle.

I think they’re going to put all this stuff we want in the second gen Mach-e so we’ll all trade in and buy new cars. All of our wants. :p

Sneaky engineers.
