I’ve been using FSD for over two years and, as many of you are tired of hearing, it has noticeably improved from V12 to V14. 95% plus of my driving uses FSD, makes it easy to ‘rubberneck,’ as my Mom would say. But, bottom line, the car has much better night vision than I, can get me places when gout has made my feet very painful (I can drive but very painful so I actually only take over when necessary), and integrates very good with Nav (even tho Tesla Nav absolutely sucks). FSD is/will be a boon for our older drivers (I am one), making them and us more safe on the road.

It’s a revenue stream issue. They want more revenue streams so they made it subscription only. There is no other reason.
Yes and the CEO gets a pay boost if...FSD subscriptions reach a certain number. The up coming Ford skunks work EV is going to have (Ford claims) level #3 but it is unknow if this is free, upfront purchase cost and/or subscription fee.

I have TWO 2024 Premium AWD Long Range Mach-E's: One Eruption Green, one White
I decided I never wanted FSD to do anything that it ever wanted to do. Then I dumped both of my Teslas and got 2 mach-Es.

I had a Model 3 and Model Y in October 2024. I had rented FSD for 2 months and found:
- it was a scared granny getting onto highways.
- it was a scared granny at 4-way stop signs.
- it was a scared granny everywhere else, EXCEPT:
- it was super aggressive when it got to the end of an on-ramp and was running out of space. Then it became Elon and merged dangerously.

I could go on.

If you don't mind a slow boat to China, FSD will eventually get you to your destination. People will honk. If you're awake, you will notice.

So it'll work as a super slow robotaxi. If you want that, it's fine.

It is now a lot different than it was in 2024. When I had free 30 day trial back in September I decided it was not ready for prime time and I would not subscribe at any price. The V14 is a totally different experience. Driving from home to our cabin today when my wife was driving she suggested we subscribe next month when we have to go back and forth weekly to move stuff from the cabin to new house.

With V14 I haven't experienced any of that scared granny reaction.

FSD now has 5 different modes of aggressive level to chose from.
  1. Sloth
  2. Chil
  3. Standard
  4. Hurry
  5. Mad Max

Not so in top aggressive "Mad Max" Mode. It will do 80+ mph in 70 MPH highways and pass every slow vehicle.

Well, we can figure a couple of things out pretty easily.

1. They're developing a cheap ev because that's the Holy Grail of the moment. So it won't be free.

2. I won't be on the base model.

3. Ford wants a revenue stream, but they're better at finding a sweet spot in a one-time fee than finding the revenue stream sweet spot. But not particularly good at either. (because it's quite hard figuring that out). So they'll go with the revenue stream. :p

4. They, along with everyone else, have seriously overestimated the desire for autonomous driving.

5. They may have seriously overestimated the demand for a cheap ev.

You're free to disagree and/or discard any or all of these. :)

$99 a month is current price. Will it increase? Is this move an attempt to secure more FSD users? Current up front purchase price $8k.
I've seen HW3 owners state that Tesla should offer FSD at half the price as they are not going to be receiving any of the newer updates that can only run on HW4 vehicles. I agree with them.
