Hauling 10’ pipe

I think one of the key things in this photo is the the front passenger seat is put way back. That allows for a greater angle so that you can go from pretty much corner to corner.

On my Volvo XC60 there was a really nice feature: the front passenger seat could fold forward, pretty close to 100%. There was a simple release that allowed this. It made hauling long(ish) stuff trivially easy.

On the Ford Edge, certain years did just that. The front passenger seat back folded forward and completely flat and you cold haul all kinds of long items in that car. Unfortunately Ford does not have seats that do this anymore.

It’s too bad they got rid of that feature. Very convenient when needed.

While I do have a Lightning (and an F-150 before that), I would never use a sedan like a truck.

On my Lightning, my tonneau is designed to hold 1,600 pounds on it, i.e. putting an offroad vehicle up there with ramps (I could have bought the 400 pound version but it was almost the same price due to Black Friday sale).

Anyway, it's diamond plate with bedliner sprayed on it. And 12 or 16 cleats. So, when I get anything longer than 5.5', instead of leaving the tailgate down, or having the tonneau part open and stuff leaning on the top of the tailgate, I just lay whatever it is down on the cover, often diagonally, and strap it down to the cleats.

I've also run 10' pipes/lumber diagonally from the passenger footwell (seat reclined) up to the frame of the hatch without threatening the front or rear windshield. The Mach-E is definetly more if a make-it-work horse than a proper work horse though in terms of the Utility in C/SUV.

I've found that 10' pipes and other long skinny items that have a bit more flex can sometimes be carried carefully. 8' is reliably done. Thanks for posting this so that I (and others) don't go a step too far.
