This happened to me 3 days into owning the car. Chiming and lights staying on. Tried a bunch of different things and not sure which resolved it. If it happens again, which it sounds like it will from the posts here, I'll be more specific on trying what's listed here.

It's a known software bug in the headlight switch assembly. It goes into an error state and the headlights stay on. It happens to me several times a month. There is supposed to be a fix coming later this year, but it will require replacing the switch assembly.

Spin the selector wheel back to Auto and it will work fine - until the error occurs again.

Even on a new build? I literally picked it up 3 days ago, it was built late last month.

Yup, its a cool software bug. I was sitting in my office a few months ago which is down in my garage. Car was off, I had just gotten back from the store. Next thing I know my car headlights turned on lol. Go and look at the car, and sure enough the amber light was not there. Spun the dial, set it back to auto and everything was fine after that. I've gotten this bug maybe 3 or 4 times, it seems to happen a lot when there is a software update.

Was just interesting that it turned on while it was parked...

It happened to me several times right after I bought the car, hasn’t happened in months now, which means it will happen tomorrow

Happened to me as well. So when the amber indicator light is off, does that mean you are in the error state?

Yes. No indicator = Bugged-out switch. Rotate to “off” then back to “auto” to correct. ??

Yes. This is a known problem since people first started getting the cars. It is very perplexing they haven't fixed it yet, and I expect this will be an expensive warranty item for Ford. Because they will need to replace every switch on every car made. Seems to me it would have been cheaper to fix the problem as soon as they found it.

I'm not in the auto industry, but in my work experience, if a subcontractor designs / manufactures a defective item they are often on the hook for all the costs involved in replacing that item with the end consumer. Of course we don't know where the fault resides on this part.

Same goes on the HVBJB. Ford isn't going to come out and say whether the fault lies with them, a subcontractor, or is shared.

I've taken my 2022 out for a drive three times this week and this stuck-headlights problem surfaced two of those times. I'll be watching this thread.

It is very strange. I will go through a few weeks without it happening, and then all of a sudden it will happen three days in a row. Something is causing the "overflow" condition that causes the error. I used to think it was just time passing, but that is obviously not it.

Anyway, there is nothing we can do until Ford fixes the part.

This problem is really starting to piss me off. It’s happened a couple times in the last few days and probably 6 or 7 times since I got the car a few months ago (22 Prem AWD ER). I don’t understand how/why Ford can’t have a fix for an unreliable headlight switch after a year. We’re talking about a headlight switch.

Probably because it’s the hardest kind of problem to fix.

It happens to “some switches, sometimes, randomly.”

Computer chips run everything these days. Even the smartest people on the planet all working together still send me regular updates to my phone to fix “bugs, glitches, etc.”

Never had a computer run anything that didn’t have a glitch at some point.

Ford has known about the problem for a long time, it affects more vehicles than just the Mach E, and still haven’t figured it out yet.

Which other vehicles? (Genuinely curious)

I’m not buying the idea that this is a problem that justifies a year+ to solve or that the headlight switch is as sophisticated as a computer or mobile phone operating system. I would more easily believe they’ve deprioritized the problem in favor of revenue producing streams.
