HELP! Touch Screen went BLACK! [SOLVED!]

I have had my car since Sunday. Love it so far but just had the screen issue when I started up to drive home from work. Started with pixels/lines then went black after a few minutes. Came back on after about 10 minutes of driving. Forgot to put the window shade up after lunch so I am assuming it was heat related. If so that would be a big blunder for it to be that sensitive to heat. I will keep an eye on it and let the dealer know about it.

if it failed once, it will fail again. call dealership and insist on diagnosis and fix for center console when they can get parts.

I picked up the car two weeks ago, so far I've had to reset the screen 11 times.

Ford UK are "looking into it" ?

I've got this same issue. I'm going to try and do the reset. I didn't have my car in the sun. So, I'm not understanding why it blanked out. It works when I put the car in reverse. It will display what the camera is seeing.

Vol down and right arrow for 10 sec worked like a charm. But still wish I knew why large screen went blank.

The reset always works for me when the screen goes blank but some days I’m having to do it four of five times. It started even before I drove off the dealers lot!!
sometimes have to hold the buttons for maybe 20 seconds for it to reset.

You just saved me a trip to the dealership. My screen went blank just that afternoon. I'm glad I remembered to check here.

There was a batch of 'bad modules'....

report the failure to your Dealer, have them get the required parts, and have the screen +modules replaced under warranty. It takes about 2 hours at the dealership if they have parts and proper training.

This has happened to me several times while driving. I has cleared up on it's own after a few minutes. As with most electronics these issues don't get better with time, they just fail. Let's hope Ford recognizes this is an issue and come up with a fix.

Did you ever get a response from the dealer on this? This happened to me today and if it wasn't for reading this forum I wouldn't have known about the soft reboot ahead of time. Luckily the key combo is all over google now if you search for it. But if what others are saying here is correct that there is some issue that requires a console replaced I better contact them on it. This to me looks like a video driver issue but who knows.

Sorry to resurrect this thread - but does anyone know how long it takes for a replacement screen to arrive at the dealership?

My screen was failing up to 3 times a day for months and months over the summer. After a good while Ford UK finally decided that it needed replacing and couldn't be fixed via an OTA, but unfortunately it's now been 11 weeks since the part was ordered and there's no ETA at present.

I have a 2021 Mach e which was built in May 2021. AW Drive and premium version. For the last three weeks I have been having a problem with the black or sometimes very dark grey screen. When starting it usually is dark grey, fairly readable. When backing up out of my garage I have to wait about 5 seconds and then I hit the brightness switch in the lower left of the dash board ( to the left of the steering wheel shaft). At that point everything on the display seems to work. That is, until I shutoff the car and then I have to go through all the motions again. When the display is black, I have done the soft reset, but that only remedies the problem temporarily. I do have an appointment with a Ford dealer, but after speaking with a Ford guide, I am not optimistic that this issue will be resolved. Has anyone else had this continuing problem?

Well 8 months after reporting this fault to Ford UK, and my car enjoying a 3 week diagnostic holiday at the dealership in August 2021, I'm pleased to report that my SYNC4 screen has finally been replaced under warranty. ?

Just got to wait for the sun to shine now to see if it's actually fixed the issue! ?

Our screen went black on our way home from the Airport recently. Another Mach-E passed by and my Wife says, “ Hey look, their screen is working! “ It came back with a reset and has only happened once so far.

Updated: SOLVED!

Solution: The Sync4 reset is to hold the volume rocker in the volumne down position and the right arrow key together for 10 seconds (both on the right side of the steering wheel). This resets the 15.5' touchscreen and in my case solved the issue! The screen came right back on and has worked since!

I have tried searching the forum and I can't find anything, but have any new owners had any issues with the touch screen going completely black and becoming unresponsive?

I have a loaner car for the day and when playing around with various settings the screen froze and went completely black! Nothing I do will get it to turn back on.

The strangest thing though is that when I put the car in reverse the backup cam comes on the screen just like normal. When I go to then switch gears to drive or some other gear it goes back to black.

Has anybody else had this issue? Any Ford engineers on here that can tell me how to reset the screen??

As mentioned before, go to the dealer and have them run an errors test. I had the same problem, and they had to replace some module in the dashboard. Everything is working fine now.

This problem occurred frequently since I picked up my car in 3/22. The screen always turned on after holding down the volume rocker while pushing the right arrow key for anywhere from 10 sec. to 3 minutes. My local service center found no problem. I eventually learned, after getting much false info from Ford Motor Co., that specialists would get involved only after I brought the vehicle back to a dealership. On the 2nd visit, again, no problem was found but Ford told them to replace the touchscreen, which they did 2 weeks ago. The problem has not recurred since then.
