Here's an idea for Ford.

Currently, the volume knob is 'clickable' meaning, you can push the knob in and it clicks. My idea is that when you click it in, it would cycle between: Volume, Fan Speed & Temperature.

That way, the 3 options that you probably utilize the most at the bottom of the SYNC4 screen would easily accessible, thereby minimizing the amount of time spent looking away from the road. They could even change the "VOL" text in the middle of the knob to signal the changes.

As great as the interface is, I don't love the temp and fan controls. It takes way too much of my attention to make precise changes.

Just a thought!!

and while their at it, add an audio function to the steering wheel (otherwise useless) OK button.

Some people with the GT and some OTA? found that if you push it, it activates the CALM screen.

Mine doesn't (June '21) but I haven't had any updates yet.

Maybe they can make it programmable to what you'd like the push to do? Cam/mirrors/AC/Temp

Or even better, a cycle, push once and a 'scrollable' cycle thru choices and in settings have it 'sticky' or not
i.e. if sticky, whatever you select will always be the choice du jour turn off/on and it's the same thing you chose before, or, not sticky and after choosing, say temp, after 5 seconds, the knob turns back into volume default.

that can't be that hard to implement.

It would also be nice if it could be used as a scroll control in the settings screens. I don't know how many times I've accidentally toggled a setting while just trying to find a spot on the screen to scroll up/down with my finger.

Ugh, I hate that! A very obvious case of "Ford doesn't do software". But no need for the knob to scroll, this is really easily fixed by making drag motions *not* trigger other interactions (ie once the list starts to scroll, the tap is no longer a tap). I have accidentally reset my driving data while scrolling.

This was actually suggested many months ago by another forum member. I’m having a problem remembering who it was at the moment, but I’m sure his name will come to me ?

Yes, but the solution is simple. Only scroll up and down with your finger in the "i" area on the far right.

I hate this. It's been 13 years since the first iPhone. We can now fly ordinary human being billionaires to space. We can't figure out SCROLLING yet?

Just tilt your phone the right way and the screen will fall that way.

On a more serious note:

This could be implmented in a few ways:

Press in to select specific functions and cycle through them with a timeout. The timeout would be if you haven't pressed it within a certain time (say 10-20 seconds) then the first press always starts at the same function (say volume). Then you don't have to look at the screen because you always know that the first press will be volume. You just have to remember the number of presses to the function you want.

Another UI choice could be: Press it in and a list pops up of the different functions, then you turn the knob to highlight the one you want and a 2nd press selects that function. Here the list could always be the same and it always starts with the first one being highlighted (say volume). Then you know: press, turn this far, press for each function again not having to look at the screen once you learn how far to turn it.

Yes, but the passenger can't hit your steering wheel, and if you want that song to crank, it takes a bit longer to push, push, push up the wheel control as opposed to the quick vol knob crank up, then down.

What a surprise when I turned my MachE on today. The volume knob now adjusts fan speed and temperature!! They even adjusted the little icon in the center of the knob. Now all they have to do is allow it to cycle through with a volume knob “click” and I’ll be happy.

But, @Ford where is my royalties on my suggestion from 2021??
