Made it through the warranty period with 91%.

I think the 8 years is going to be a bigger deal than the 100k in terms of making >70% at warranty expiration.

Ford could almost extend the battery warranty to 8 yr/150k to match Tesla.
My 2013 LEAF with 90K miles had lost less than 20% when I sold it back in February.

I also own a Leaf that I use in the city instead of the Mach-E, saving the wear and tear of Portland. It's a 2011 (first year!) with 68k miles at 70ish SOH%

Mine’s at 67,500 miles in 28 months during which time it took onboard a total of c22,500kWh of charge power around 25% of which is at DCFC. At home I virtually always charge to 100%. Battery state of health is currently 96.5%.

I have come to use the car without consideration that it’s an EV and in UK where my day trips take me, usually 300-400miles, I always get a charge when I need, am never disappointed by turning up at busy or broken charge points which never now happens, the infrastructure is really that good and the charge point providers’ Apps are just amazing.

It’s just a matter of being organised

However, to listen to the ICE-age men and the propagandist uneducated press my EV can never work reliably, I can never get a charge, I will die of range anxiety, the battery will spontaneously combust without warning at any moment but if it don’t my entire battery which is 12 separate arrays will all just die all at once some time sometime soon??ā€ā™‚

Wow, congratulations. I got Premium and Select around the same time November 21 and December 21. I'm nowhere close to that combined. 36000 combined. 3

I would also bet if it goes bad a 3rd time……. Ford would probably cover it if he pushed.
I'm guessing the OP's first replacement was before they upgraded the part. My first HVBJB replacement (replaced in April 2022) failed almost immediately...I think it was before they started swapping them out with the upgraded part. Have there been many cases where the improved HVBJB has failed?

Battery is at 91% so 9% loss isn't too bad. I plug in every night at home on my Charge point home flex charger. I charge to 100% in the winter and 85% the rest of the year. I have only used a DCFC maybe 6 times.
That's positive news (on the degradation). You bought the car with 88 kWh useable, Ford increased it to 91 kWh by unlocking some of the buffer, and now you have about 83 kWh useable (using your 91% health figure against 91 kWh). That puts you only 6% below the battery capacity you originally purchased.

I'd love it if Ford would unlock a bit more buffer for those who are beyond their warranty, if only to offset the degradation. If the battery pack is 99 kWh gross, why not increase the usable capacity to, say, 94 kWh for those above 100,000 miles. That still leaves a decent buffer, but it keeps your range much closer to the original.

I think they should increase the capacity for everyone who has a SoH of 93% or lower. Why 93%? Well, that is the SoH of my battery of course.

Picked up my First Edition Feb. 26, 2021.
2 HVBJB replacements. One at 54,642 the second one at 94,362.
Battery SOH is at 91%

I picked up mine Feb 14, 2021. But I only have 17,000 miles, just had the HVBJB failure...

At 67,000 miles, used the original crappy Contis plus 2 additional rears I wore out and am probably about a quarter way down a set of Mich CC2s, keep meaning to measure but don’t get around to it!

But isn’t the point of the buffer to slow battery degregation, therefore by taking away buffer the degregation would occur more quickly?

Telsa battery warranties make no sense. The RWD/LFP should last the longest and the X/S are the most expensive.

OP - I'd be curious how many miles you get out the upgraded 2022 HVBJB and whether Ford pays the replacement when that happens.

Yeah it seems to correlate with vehicle cost.

He’s out of warranty so if HVBJB fails again he’ll have to pay himself.

Any insurers want to start offering 3rd party HVBJB insurance?

Rate of HVBJB longevity is trending downwards... hopefully the OP bought an extended warranty.
The extended warranty won't be needed. Ford will cover the HVBJB past warranty due to the record already on file of it's premature failure rate whether they like it or not. Ford has been known to cover defects past warranty. A class action suit is all but guaranteed. See Ford Focus https://lemonlawexperts.com/ford-transmission-settlement-update/

It would be much better to place the money in another investment and let it accrue rather than a IMO, a worthless extended warranty.

I lose no sleep in thinking I will have to pay for an HVBJB repair. It will be on Ford's dime. ?

Only my way but I buy no insurance, which is all extended warranty is, other than absolutely essential motor, home & business insurance and underwrite all other ā€œlossesā€ myself and feel I am tens of thousands of GBP up.

Example: At supermarket one day cashier asked ā€œwould you like to buy extended warranty with that?ā€. My reply: ā€œAre you mad? It’s a Ā£13 iron, derā€.

Pay less, worry less still and enjoy life and especially the ā€˜Stang is my way ?
