I have toyed with the idea of running a 100A circuit to a sub panel in the garage in anticipation of a time where 2 ESVE's may be necessary.
While that's one way to go, there are easy ways to charge 2 BEVs overnight from a single 50A circuit. Unless they both have exceptionally high demand (like both being driven 150+ miles/day and needing to be charged in under 8 hours or something.

Most people don't even have to charge nightly. Alternating nights is one easy method. Another is using a dual charger to charge both concurrently at lower power. Or a smart splitter that charges one followed by the other automatically.

Ok, now imagine a world where there are 2 teenagers children and both their parents living in a single home, all driving BEVs. Remember, my plan was to attempt some measure of future proofing.

Well sure, accommodating 4 EVs rather than the 2 I was responding to changes the equation. A lot.

right now, the Smurfmobile is the only EV we have. But my girlfriends daughter is turning 16 in 3 months, so the potential for a second ev is there already. But I’m also thinking about the future when they come up with a new charging system that needs an 80A circuit…

While I don't own one ... I did learn that the Enel X JuiceBox can share the circuit. E.g. two JuiceBox chargers on a single circuit will "talk" to each other via WiFi. They each know when the other is charging. When both need to charge they reduce the charge rate and share the circuit charging both cars at half the amps. But when only one is being used it will charge using all available amps. This prevents the need to upgrade the service panel to add more amperage in the garage.

Clipper Creek also has an EVSE that does this. They call it the Share2. You can order it as a pair ... about $1500 for two EVSE wall-boxes.

What's somewhat interesting is that it really is just WiFi and software to make it all work. So in theory, any smart WiFi connected EVSE should be able to do this with the right software. It would be great if it were just an industry standard ... that way the EVSEs wouldn't even need to be the same brand.

I think we're gonna see a lot more options rolling out soon as demand increases. ClipperCreek has a dual charger now, but it's kinda pricey ($1349). I'd be surprised if manufacturers don't start offering dual chargers under $1000 within a year or two.

That's the single wall-box version. They also have the Share2 line (which is two separate wall-boxes). https://store.clippercreek.com/index.php?route=product/search&search=share2

That's handy if you need them on opposite sides of the garage.

I have two chargers at home now, and will probably need a third in a year or two. My daughter will be 16 soon, and she is getting the bolt, and the bolt will be replaced with an eF150. If there is a viable three row SUV that isn’t 80k+ in the next two years then we will have potentially 4 EVs to charge. Not sure what we will do then…

However, as you mentioned, at low power there is the overhead issue, which is why charging at 120v 12A is more efficient than charging at 120v 8A.
Do you know what the overhead loss from the inverter/electronics is? I charge @ 110v more often than I would like. In my Audi it is about 300-400 watts depending on if the cooling needs to run, I am hoping the MachE should be lower overhead losses.

Interesting...so the vast majority of people are NOT using the Ford Mobile Charger to charge at home? (At least I assume that's what the 32A charger/40Amp circuit choice represents).

I think it will be sufficient to suit our needs. I tried it out in my garage using our dealer’s demo MME. It took about 8 hours to charge from 40 to 100%.

Yeah, that's my plan, too. Going to have it installed on a 50amp 14-50 plug though in case I want to upgrade the charger down the road.

Yeah, that’s what I did and now it has been tested and ready for my Wife’s new car whenever it gets here!
