Hi,

I have the MME GT 2023 and I’m considering to purchase a more powerfull charger to use at home.

After reading some topics and websites I understand that the maximum charge rate using AC is 11kw/hr. This is correct? But thinking in the future maybe purchase a 22kw charger make sense because the price difference is very small here in Brazil. At my home I have all the wires and eletric installation prepared to support the 22kw.

My question is if there any issue using a more powerfull charger than the car support?

No. The car will only pull the maximum amount of power that it can take.

I have an 11kw charger and turned it down to about 9kw. That is more than enough to complete a full charge every night. In the rare event that you forgot to charge all week and you need to leave on a road trip right now, a local DCFC is a better option. Even if they start selling 1000 mile battery packs, are you going to drive that every day? I don’t know of any cars in the current pipeline with that large an AC inverter. Maybe install a conduit with that capability and plan to upgrade the copper in it later, if this a concern down the road.

realize it's not just changing the charger. You need to feed it which most likely means larger wires, larger breaker, and possibly the service. At least around her the amperage should be derated by 20% because of the heat generated by the continuous load. I've got a 70A lightning running at 40A because of the 50A capable wires/breaker I could feed it with. But overnight charging works just fine for us so i have no need to change.

My advice: go as large as you can at home.

Whilst the Stang can only charge at 11kW your next cars may be capable of more powerful charges.

I installed a 3-phase 22kW charge point at home which is the maximum UK domestic supply will allow if 3-phase is either already routed to the house or can be connected so am reasonably future-proofed.

7KW is my sweet spot, @32A. Thats about 20 mi/hr.

Same for me. Out GTPE get 25 miles hr and model y 38 miles hr on juicebox plug type 40amp on 50amp breaker. Never a problem in 8 months. App sucks like kids in middle school developed it. Dont use it.
