Would a 4 bike platform be to heavy for the frame of the Mach-E ? I assume yes because all I see is 2 bikes platform like.
I think you see the 2 bike platforms because they are more common. Most any hitch should support a 4 bike one. The ecohitch/torklift one supports 300 pounds.

No doubt the hitch will but will the Mach-E frame fell ? We're looking at 200+ lbs with more than 5ft long from the tip of the hitch. That's a lot of bouncing force. It's also a huge amount of money to put down if the car frame can't support a 4 platform bike and the bikes. šŸ˜‰

Or I'll just look at a normal hitch bike rack.

Really didn't want a hitch so I picked up the Thule roof rack and bike attachment. Will pick up a second bike carrier and mount it in reverse so the handle bars don't cross. Worked great so far.

I have a stealth hitch 1.5" that I installed at home. I got a 1up Quick rack to ferry the bike around with. Got an extra adapter from them that lets me use the rack on my Ram2500 2.5" receiver as well.

I have an old 2 bike sport works rack that unfortunately can't hold my 2.5" tire MTB bike. I needs to find it a new home instead of the dump.

The U-Haul hitch made by Draw-Tite has a max tongue weight rating of 350 lbs. I wouldn't go that high, but I don't think 4 standard bikes would be a problem. My two eBikes total about 120 lbs + 50 lbs for the rack.

I remember seeing a photo of someone with two e-bikes on a MME hitch rack and the weight almost bent it to the ground.

I carry two enduro MTB's on my MME with a Kuat 2" hitch rack and it's okay but the bikes bounce more compared to the same rack attached to my Telluride. I feel like 4 MTB's might be too much for the MME's spring steel mounting locations.

Thanks for rhe feedback. I'll stay with a traditional hitch mounted bike.

Here is my solution - Torklift hitch, 1-up Equip'D with a Kuat extension. It has worked great for the last 3 years, and I've driven many thousands of miles with bikes on the back.

https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...p-equipd-rack-is-a-tight-fit.8070/post-214674

I've since added the add-on trays to the rack to carry 4 bikes, and have driven halfway across the country fully loaded (note that 1-up has a weight limit of 50lbs on the inner 2 trays, and 35lbs on the outer two trays, in this configuration) without trouble.

If a hitch is sagging with bikes on it then there is a real problem with the install, the rack, or a poor choice of extension bar. The allowable tongue weight with the Ford hitch is 200 lbs, if I recall correctly, and most aftermarket hitches suggest a higher tongue weight than that. If you want to carry 4 massive e-bikes then you might need to get pretty customized, but 2 massive e-bikes or 4 normal bikes is well within the reasonable range for the MachE.

This set up is okay around town, but will absolutely kill your range on trips. I had four bikes mounted to a Prius for a while during the pandemic. I recall one trip I took when I needed to drive a reasonable upward slope at highway speeds. I had to floor the car to maintain 75 mph. My efficiency dropped from 50 to less than 28 mpg. Also killed two birds and had blood splattered all over the bikes.

I use a 4 bike platform, but admittedly haven’t used it a lot with four bikes. We typically use my other vehicle when we carry all four bikes

Funny you mention this. I measured and after 200km @ 115km/hr average highway speeds the range dropped by about 2%. So not a significant impact. Can't say I killed any wildlife though. Never even thought that might be a possibility. Also, I don't ride e-bikes so this is with a standard bike's weight.

For those that cycle, how do you move your bike?

Prior to getting the MME i had a F150 and it was simple with a hitch rack.

I have been putting in the back which is fine. Just not used to it. I assuming it is what you all do as well

Not sure I want to install a hitch on my MME

Thanks
I had a 2ā€ receiver installed and use a 1 Up rack

My Large 56 Aeroad fits in the back with the seats down. I installed an EcoHitch on my 25 MME Premium. I run that with a 1up rack. I’d feel fine with 3 bikes. I’d have to see how it feels with four. A sea sucker type rack would be pretty ok if you trust yourself…I would undoubtedly smash my bike into the garage eventually because I’m a creature of habit. It’s not if, it’s when.

I installed a CURT Class 3 Trailer Hitch on my 2021, and use a heavy-duty double 1up bike rack to haul two ebikes (mountain bikes). It all works great, no problems.

Count me in the group that places bikes in the back with the seats down. So far that's worked fine.

I almost got a hitch since I have a hitch bike rack, but I really didn't want to make the necessary changes to the MME for that. I think Ford should have put the small hitch as an option.
