FordPass is far from perfect. In fact my current rating for it in the app store is 1 star, due to battery drain, PaaK reliability, app quirkiness, data conversion/correlation bugs, poor UI patterns, layout, and lack of data exportability.

I was curious to see how its app store ratings compare to other vehicle ownership apps. So I decided to dig in...

I'm an Android user. I looked up Play Store ratings and focused on U.S. results when multiple were available. I didn't look up Apple store ratings, but if you'd like to contribute those comparisons, I'd be interested in seeing them, too.

Before getting to the results, it's important to understand how Google Play Store ratings work:

How ratings are calculated
Play Store ratings for apps, and the corresponding bar graphs showing the proportional number of 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 star reviews, are calculated based on the app's current quality ratings from user reviews, rather than the lifetime average value of user reviews, unless the app has very few ratings. This gives users more insight into the app, and a better understanding of its current state, since apps can change over time, and often add and remove features. We show the total lifetime number of reviews as this provides users with valuable information about the app's use and longevity.

Also bear in mind that the app feature sets vary considerably. Some of them show recalls and help you find a service center, others can remote start the car but require a subscription, and still others go further.

With all of that out of the way, here we are... You may be surprised with some of these results.

Yes. Very surprised. I would swap FordPass's scorewith MyFordMobile's. I thought MFM was actually quite good.

UConnect isn't that great either. I would put it right there with FP. They both are very similar IMO

I've had good luck with the free services in the myChevrolet app on my 2017 Malibu. Remote start and lock/unlock have always worked flawlessly. I successfully summoned a tow truck once.
Infiniti chose to have no support for the 2021 QX50 in their app. I was amazed to learn this after I picked up the car. I foolishly assumed app support was a given on a 21. Silly me.
It will still be several more weeks before I get to enjoy (?!?!?) FordPass. I am hopeful there will be an update or two before I take delivery. I don't need a battery vampire app on my phone. Of course it would also be cool if all of the features worked as intended. ??

I've also given Fordpass a 1 star rating. There were some things I found confusing and I've had it crash on me while I was charging and restarting it kept me locked out from the car.
I think more time spent at the dealership leaarning about it up front would have helped.

I think 4.3 is very fair for FordPass. It does what it is supposed to quite well in my opinion and integrates both my smart and non-smart Fords pretty seamlessly.

I don’t get bugs too often and it has most of the features I would want.

Interesting, although hard to get meaningful information. The Ford pass app worked way better with my C-Max than my MME. Why? Because you couldn't do anything with that car except look to see if you have a recall or what your points are. So it also depends on what car we are talking about.

Still interesting though.

FordPass is used by all of Fords connected vehicles. It worked better for my 2018 Escape than it does for my Mach-E. I would bet that many of the reviews for it are not by EV owners.

Agreed. I think if it was only mach e owners the rating would be far lower. From what I hear it works much better on literally everything else because the EV functionality is still so new

I really like FordPass coming from the terrible INFINITI InTouch Services. My MY17 Infiniti had a app but my 2020 did NOT. How crazy is that.

Ford Pass is much better than the extremely limited app for our Leaf that hasn’t haddock significant update in years. They’re still doing “bug fixes” but I haven’t noticed any changes.

I give it a 1 on the app store, since as a MME owner it is very limited for managing a connected vehicle. I'm hoping to see a Tesla like functional app one day for the MME. It would be nice to have the ability to control the climate from the app and the status should display more info than just the tire pressure c'mon.

I hated Fordpass. It grew on me when it became slightly more reliable for me on iOS. PAAK works a lot better for me these days, for example. Right now I'd give it at 3/5. It's missing a lot of core functionality I think should be in the app, but it works ok for what's there now.
