We just got a 2023 Select and love it so far. My wife only has a 3 mile (round-trip) trip to work and usually does not use more than 10 miles of range per day. Knowing that, how often should we plug it in for updates and charging? Thanks in advance for the help.

My commute is very similar. I plug in daily when I get home, have the car set to charge to 80% ans have it set to auto start/precondition every morning at 645.

If you are in a cold or hot environment, Always Be Charging (ABC) is the best strategy. Being on charge allows the car to condition the main battery when it’s too hot or too cold. This prevents temperature extremes from reducing the main battery’s State of Health. ??

I live in one of those almost always in-between environments, so I plug in twice a week. This means I mostly ignore ABC. When the overnight temperature is going to drop below the 50s, I make sure to plug in. If the daytime temperature when I get home is in the high 80s, I plug in. Otherwise, I plug in twice a week with my charge limit at 85%. ??

Shallow charging sessions are better for the battery then deep ones. If you have ncm avoid sitting at much more than 85%. The 23.5 can draw 7kw to precondition so leaving it plugged in facilitates this.

Watch this video from an older thread:
https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...-your-ev-battery-engineering-explained.33402/

It goes into great detail about charging and battery health. It's focused on the NCM extended range battery but there are quick references to your Select LFP battery. There may be other links specific to your standard range battery in Engineering Explained on YT after this video, or others here on the forum.

Don't worry too much about the battery, it will likely outlast any expectation you have.

I drive 3 miles for lunch and that's about it, I'm always plugged in and set to 80% charge at home. I also charge at only 120v since no need to install a 240v charger for my use case.

I have preferred charging times set up in Ford Pass to take advantage of ToU rates, and plug in when I come home, no matter what the SoC is. I drive a lot, so it's usually 70% or less, but as mentioned above shallow charging is better overall than deep.

If I need to change outside of my low rate window I just tap "Charge to 100%" to start charging.

Use level 1 all the time, and your LVB will stay sufficiently charged for updates. You're a classic "don't need level 2" use case.

Interesting video and discussion links. I share the same question as the OP, as I too am new to the EV world. I've had my MME 4 X premium a little over a week and have only put about 100 miles on it thus far. My L2 charger is set for install in three weeks, April 22. I have used the Ford travel/mobile charger on a 110/120V outlet and charged the car to 80%, the limit I set on Ford Pass. Painfully slow but it did work. Perhaps I haven't read the various comments, threads, and information carefully enough (or maybe I've been retired so long my brain needs pre-heating to function properly?) , but I remain confused about whether the EVSE plugged in to the vehicle will enable any warming of the battery when the battery is not charging because it's reached whatever SOC limit was set, and even if the user has not set any schedules for departure and so on. In other words, if you do nothing except leave the charger plugged in after charging has shut off, is any battery warming effect possible? It seems to me the answer is probably "no", but electricity and these complex systems are all pretty much in the realm of magic to me, so maybe it is possible through the magic of magic.

Is the jumppoint accessory to enable trickle charging the 12V battery without popping open the cover in the lower front bumper cover? Where does the jumppoint mount in your car?

I use my jump point for FDRS updates, not to maintain the 12V battery. The leads behind the cosmetic cover on the front bumper are not a jump point. They are for opening the frunk if the 12V battery is dead. ??
